Any fun groups or suggestions for Vintage Vespa rentals in the Philippines? I'll be there in a few weeks for a few weeks. I'd also be down for some dual sport rentals, and/or a Vintage Vespa with knobby tires

I have been to the Philippines several times and will be moving there later this year. Vintage Vespas are very scarce and *very* valuable there. (A couple weeks ago I saw a trashed VNB sell for 4K U.S.) There is currently 1/2 of a P engine case on the Philippines vintage vespa page selling for 1K U.S.

If anybody is renting vintage Vespas I don't know about it.

If you'd like to rent a modern Vespa or Lambretta there are a few options in Manila (I don't know about Vesayas). Let me know if you'd be interested.

EDIT: You can buy a *new* 125cc - 175cc bike there for about 2 - 2.5K U.S. so that may be an option.

Man, that scene sounds really scarce.

Thailand has a lot of vintage Vespas but hardly anyone wants to sell. That means the prices are very high even for a trashed Sprint 150. I've read that Singapore is a super scarce place for vintage bikes. The thing about South East Asia is that importing complete vintage Vespa bikes is next to impossible which drives the prices of existing bikes to insane levels.

Yup, The hard thing -- in my experience -- for Americans to understand is that in much of S.E. Asia old scooters and small motorcycles are cultural artifacts. These are the reminders of days gone by and are the definition of good design. Not '57 Chevy's or '65 Mustangs or '69 Camaros.

Here in America old Vespas are 'Mopeds' of little cultural value (and even some scorn). The average person can not distinguish one from a Yamaha Vino. Hence they are very cheap (by global comparison).

If import duties into the Philippines weren't ridiculous (about 4-6K U.S. when I recently looked into it) U.S. scooters would be being exported left and right.

Valuation is a funny thing.
