ok folks the spring date and location has been set.

VOGEL STATE PARK in north georgia

cabins are $200 a nite and have 2 bedrooms with 4 double beds max of 8 per cabin. so typically 4 to a cabin and its $50 a nite each plus tax. full kitchens they have been recently upgraded in the last couple years as well.

please post your cabin # on this thread so folks can see the area we are congregating at and who all you have or need rooms mates to share with.

I'll start by having cabin #23 reserved

Vogel is my favorite. I have to be there. Not sure what I will be riding but most likely Jess's MP3. It should be here soon.

LM15 has the other bed in with OAD, Sooner and me.

For those needing directions here is the map. Vogel Park is just in lower left corner of intersection of Wolf Pen Gap and Neal's gap.

Real good news is shirt still fits.

OK I have cottage 24. I am paying for one room (I snore so) but the other bedroom has two beds. I've paid a deposit of $336.00 which is my cost plus half the tax. So if you want one of the other two beds for 3 nights will be $168.00 each.

Its about 30 miles from my house....I'll just ride up.

I ride this entire area a hundred times a year... from Dahlonega to the state lines (north to NC/TN, east to SC).

Edit: I am going to camp. Campsites are $30...

Hey guys - Merry Christmas to all my fellow "gatherers"!

Wanted to share some news of one of our own. Nor's father passed away earlier this week, so if you can spare some good thoughts and prayers for her and KiloVictor, I'm sure they would appreciate it.

We had weather in the 70's here last weekend and it got me thinking about the gathering. I am still trying to decide if I should take the 250 or the 500. The 250 just needs a new belt and tires. Jess's old 500 runs fine but it needs a bit more work including throttle cables.

What is everyone riding this spring? Any other 250's?

You may be the only MP3 at gathering. With extra washer the 250 will keep up fine and probably even without washer. Main thing is to be there and rejoin the fellowship.

Kilo is riding a Honda CTX700
Nor a 2 wheel maybe BV300.

Doug and Mark still have MP3s but haven't brought them to a gathering in awhile.

top speed is around 72-75. we won't be riding those speeds though. maybe some full throttle going up steep climbs but still won't be hitting high speeds.

Since most of us have stopped riding mp3s, we need a new odd looking motorcycle that captures everyone's attention. The answer lies on YouTube.

I live about 30 miles away, but will be at Campsite 'M' on Friday and Saturday night.

My wife and daughters and I are going to camp. They are going to hang around and ride bicycles and go hiking with the dog, etc. If they get bored, they'll go up to Blairsville or up to Brasstown Bald or over to Helen.

Since no one has talked about it much, let me give you the lay of the land:

The foothills roll up from around mid-Georgia all the way to Chattahoochee National Forest. The "real" Appalachians begin in Dawson/Lumpkin/White counties. The Appalachian trail begins in Dawson County, runs through Amicalola St Park, over to Suches/Woody Gap, over to Neels Gap at 19/129 (about 4 miles south of Vogel), and then to points to the northeast. Vogel sits right in the center of the biggest mountains/curves in north GA. Almost exactly 60 miles due north as the crow flies (120 miles by road!) is Deal's Gap/ Tail of the Dragon.

BTW, it costs $5 a day to enter Ga State Parks... even if you are camping. At Vogel, they don't have an entry gate where they collect $$$ so it's on the honor system(rangers will be on the lookout). Most other GA state parks do. If you are there for 4 days, you'll spend $20 on entry/parking. If you are coming back to GA, it might be worth it to purchase an annual pass ($50 reg price, half price if you are over 62). IIRC, purchasing a pass at one park allows you to visit any other park on the same day. Parks we could visit in addition to Vogle: Rich Mt, Amicalola, Moccasin Creek, Tallula Gorge, Unicoi, the gold museum in Dahlonega. Other places, like Brasstown Bald (the highest point in GA and a great ride up!) are Dept of the Interior or Dept of Agriculture land, or some other Federal holder, and are not covered by the state Parks Pass. So if we go up BrassTown Bald, for example, you will need some parking money.

Also heads up: I think Vogel might be one of those "you have to purchase our wood if you want a fire". They are wrestling with things like trying to save the hemlocks, and a lot of north GA parks don't want folks bringing in pests in from outside.

Gas stations are not far from Vogel. There are a gas stations a couple miles north of Vogel on 129, headed west there is a gas station in Suches (11miles) at the corner of 60 and 180. Headed south, I don't think that there is a gas station until Turner's corner (8 or 9 miles away). I am going to try to remember to keep it full coming back into camp, but am going to bring one full 2 or 5 gallon can to top off at Vogel.

As Restaurants go: There are a couple restaurants a couple of miles north of Vogel (same area as the gas stations). There is also a restaurant right at Turner's corner. After that, you will have to go all the way to Blairsville or Dahlonega or Helen or Cleveland for food. There are LOTS and LOTS of restaurants in all of those locations. Two Wheels of Suches is usually open for breakfast/lunch/dinner starting sometime in the spring. It's an area landmark for two wheel riders that you will probably want to visit at least once.

There is a Walmart in Dahlonega, there are several grocery stores in Cleveland and Blairsville, and a few Dollar Generals scattered about. Vogel itself will have snacks at the park headquarters... they have a little bit of stuff indoors as well as outdoor vending machines.

That's it for now. I still haven't decided if I am bringing the BV350 or the Vespa... or both!

I am getting worried. I have all three tires on order from Motosport but they will not be in stock until Thursday.

Anyone have a source with City Grips 2 in stock?

Cycle Gear seems to have the rear tire in stock, but not the front. I checked americanmototire.com and they appear to be out of stock.

Thanks for the update on the area. BTW, regarding the parking fee, my reservation states: "Overnight guests pay only one ParkPass fee for the duration of their stay." I'm not sure the daily fee applies.
