a question or two about mitts / muffs / whatever they are called.

Do you find that they interfere with the brake lever or accidentally bump the horn?

I normally ride with my hand 2inches out from the handlebar cover with 1/2inch resting on the bar end. I then slide my left hand in one inch when using the indicators or the horn. When I tested while just sitting on the bike (I haven't ridden yet) with some cheap ones I bought, I can hear the brake switch click when I do that slide and then unclick when I return to my normal position. Not sure if they actually engage enough to actually do braking. Hmmm.

So I'm thinking maybe I should buy some short levers ... (I normally 2 finger brake anyway)

Thoughts?

Horn - never.

But at high speed, above about 60mph, my cheap Chinese nylon muffs do sometimes nudge the brake levers due to wind pressure. My solution is to ignore it, since I don't go that fast very often on my usual route, especially when it's cold enough for the muffs. Sometime I will tuck a finger or two inside the brake levers and push out gently to make sure they aren't being actuated.

A previous owner bent a 1/2" aluminum strip from the bar end weight screw around to the brake handle pivot point. This created a little rib that provided enough stiffness to prevent any so-called muff diving. And it is invisible since it's inside the muff. Pretty good solution IMO.
