Hey folks,

Any recommendations on how to remove these two bearings (needle and roller) and the bearing race on the flywheel side?

This comes from a ET3 small frame engine case.

Thanks for your input.

heat the case up with a propane torch around the bearings. they likely will fall out. Or toss the whole thing in the oven @ 350 for about 20-minutes for same result. That usually works for me, without having to use an extractor

If you are using the extractors I find it often works better if you remove the needles from the driveshaft support bearing. There is a little nipple in the casing casing sometimes that stops the extractor getting between the case and bearing.

I haven't tried it myself, yet, but there's a video of someone stuffing pieces of toast into the needle bearing until it is pushed up out of its seat.

For the flywheel, weld a piece of iron bar and then hit it to come out. For the gearbox bearings I weld a bolt and use a slide hammer. I'd replace the flywheel bearing with a NU204…

This works 100%. I've used it in multiple situations.

You need cheap bread, and a punch that is very close to the ID of the bearing.

Until it falls out? Razz emoticon

Seriously, you won't damage the cases with a propane torch. It's not not enough. The cases are a BIG heat sink, though, so it can take some time to get there. Some people use a cheap hot plate for this sort of thing with good results, too.

This guys videos are great! He covers large and small frame engine bearing removal in this video. I wish I spoke Italian.

Go to the 9:30 minute mark to see how it is done.

if you turn on subtitles, you can then go into options and set it to auto-translate to your language of choice. I usually go with English, but you do you

Yeah, I use it all the time. I try to watch the German scooter videos auf Deutsch, but if they get too colloquial, I can't keep up and it's a lifesaver.

It's also gotten a LOT better over the past six months or a year. Machine Learning for the win!

You should post a video of this bread technique.

Bread works on the larger bearing. I did it.

Amazing. Probably takes some time. Hahaha.

Now what about the main bearing race?? What kind of grocery can I used to remove that?

someone will surely post something about adding JB Weld to the race and hammer it out.

Rhetoric aside, welding a piece of scrap to the race is the only way to properly do it.

A+, Keep up the good work.

That makes sense. It looks like those bearings are in blind holes. A couple MIG spotwelds to attach something to grab onto is a great idea. I used the remove the needles trick with heat to get out the selector box bearing on my 150 case. Heat is really your friend, so don't be shy. Even with a Map torch it would be hard to do any harm. A heat gun works pretty well too.
