Hiya,

My understanding is that due to the changing designs of motorcycle rear lights (and the incorporation of LEDs/fancy designs on many newer models), the requirement for a rear reflector has been added.

My question is, has anyone with an ET2 or ET4 had that stipulated at MOT? I can clearly see one already incorporated into the original rear light (it reflects back at me when I open the garage door) so I don't really see the need. Don't want unnecessary add-ons (unless it adds 100 bhp? 🀣 ).

Just getting myself ready to mitigate any comment form the MOT tester tomorrow. Everything is spot on, so should be a pass with no advisories.

Don't you just need a separate reflector if there isn't one incorporated in the light itself.

That's what I thought. So given there's one incorporated into the existing light there shouldn't be a need…. just wondering if anyone's had their ET2/ET4 in for an MOT recently to confirm my thoughts (that the incorporated one is sufficient). πŸ˜‡

Not an ET2 or ET4 but I've never needed one on any of the bikes/scooters that I've taken for MOT.

Super. Fingers crossed. Once MOT'd I can get it jetted properly.

I've just seen your build thread in the Projects section. It looks like you've gone through it with a fine-toothed comb so fingers crossed for the MOT tomorrow!

Thanks! The only thing I didn't check was the engine mounts. Completely missed that, but with under 5000 miles on the clock, should be ok. 🀞🀞

I will replace them once I start on the cosmetics, but this thing needs to earn an MOT pass first.

Retro reflecting red tape from you local bicycle shop should do the job if needed.

Apparently that won't do.
Reflective tape is not an acceptable substitute for a rear reflector.
However, the reflector must surely be OK if part of the rear position light lens, or stoplight lens - a reflector is a reflector, after all! But con't quote me on that... If the ET2 has all original lighting equipment on board, then it'll be fine.

What I would do - I'd ask the dealer who will be doing the MOT what the situation is. If necessary, fit a small round reflector on the back on the centre-line.

Passed with flying colours. No issues, and no rear reflector needed. πŸ‘
