Hello
Does anyone own a Piaggio Ape in NY and was successful in getting liability insurance on it? I've been trying and called many different companies (collectors and traditional) with no luck.
Thank you

Thank you for your response! I have tried Hagerty without luck. They told me they "do not insure three wheels". Only with some exceptions to people who have been with them a long time or have multiple vehicles with them.
I put out a bunch of quotes. I am hopeful with one but also have a high doubt they will do it. Fingers crossed that they will. I love this little lady! |

People privately own and operate the 3-wheeled interceptors that the police auction off. It has to be regged as a motorcycle I believe and there's no reason why they shouldn't insure.

The funny part is I have it registered via Vermont as a motorcycle without issue. I have tags for it. I want to transfer the plates to NY but in order to do so they need proof of insurance (NY is crazy about insurance). I hit a wall. But you do raise a great point how are they registered privately and who does it! Great question. Thank you for opening up that door for more research possibly another path.
I do own a small business (LLC) and eventually want to transfer it over to the business for use at pop up events. |

Hope you are able to figure it out. I thought hagerty would do it.
I would love to see this in person some time. Never ridden in one before. |

Yes I've spoken to them on the phone after filling out the quote form and have chatted with them. I actually have a house with a driveway I store it in. (Rare in NYC). They did ask their underwriting people. I'm not sure why. It's basically a covered Vespa with three wheels and a flatbed.

I have an 1982 Ape in California and got insurance via USAA, who partners with Progressive.
