Some of the new HPE models have a longer induction pipe that curls around and goes through that hole in the air filter box partition. Usually a longer induction pipe = more torque.
But some other models have a new design with a paper filter. Don't know if it is year of construction or destination country that makes the difference..
it's the country. Asia Pacific (ie from the Vietnamese factory) have the paper filter. Both ECMA (E4+E5) and NAFTA (there is only an E4) have the classic airbox. I didn't check which have the different induction pipe.
PS, I've don't extensive googling on the variations between Asia Pacific vs the rest of the world. Frustratingly sites such as SIP don't even list the Asia Pacific variations of the GTS or HPE. Found other things like the ECMA changed it's wiring harness when going from HPE E4 to E5 and the NAFTA has another variation (presumably for the turn signal pods). And another trivia is the ECMA E5 update of the Sei Giorni has ASR unlike the E4
