I'm setting up a home forge and gathering myself some interesting workshop companions:
First, the "oddscoot" of bench vises - a ca. 1912 "anvil" bench vise. The anvil is hollow so not great for serious blacksmithing, but it's in nearly perfect condition and will be good for shaping and straightening stuff. The vise has remarkably not-sloppy tolerances and has circular toothed jaws underneath for holding round stuff as well.
Second is a late 1800s British proper blacksmith anvil - has rough edges all around but the the face is perfectly flat and free of marks, and it sings like a bell. I'm excited to put this survivor back to work.
