Sorry if this has been done to death but...!

If Ive got a 2017 Supersport do I need to buy an aftermarket exhaust that is specific to that year or are the engines common for a few years? ie can I buy one that states 2010 or 2016
Im aware the HPE ones seem different so Ive not included them

Thanks
Kevin

If I am buying aftermarket parts at a reputable online retailer that has the ability to search/filter by year, make, and model, I tend to trust the fitment results. If I'm at at shop, I would hope the parts department would know.

Maybe share the type of aftermarket exhaust you are looking at, and folks with that combination of scooter, year and exhaust can weigh in specifically.

I feel like I recently read on MV that someone waited a long time for their aftermarket exhaust to arrive only to realize the manifold pipe on their model was different from the same bike produced for a different market and it did not fit.

Shebalba….it's a fair point…when I've narrowed it down I'll ask.
I was just hoping there was a generic ' all gts's between 11-18 are the same' kinda thread!

Are you looking to swap the exhaust between two bikes within that year range? Otherwise I'm not sure why you would not just search SIP, for example, using your year and make.

MP threads on exhaust are abundant. I guess you could search the topic and see what exhaust people are running and reference the scooter listed in their profile. The challenge with that is people update profiles when they buy and sell bikes, but the post would not reflect that.

There are exhausts that fit a very wide production range. The Akrapovic slip-on is one.

Many of the online retailers will note if a certain bike needs modification or parts for proper fit.

Good luck.

Being specific theres a few Italian GPR exhausts I like the look and sound of..but they all claim to fit a certain year (and no 2017 model in sight). Ive asked but Im not convinced he really knows.
I didnt really have the budget to pay Akrapovic prices so about $400 was my limit on something that doesnt give me any extra punch. SIP explains it fairly clearly but a bit limiting there for a black one. Im in UK

the year can be misleading due to things like when there is a change not all countries get it at the same time or simply if your bike was made (not purchased) at the start or end of the year of a new model.

Your 2017 could be either a E3 or a E4. I obviously don't know which you have but you should match this when purchasing.

some online stores only ask for year. this is not helpful. What is needed is the engine number (MA33M or M454M or ...) or vin prefix (ZAPMA3300 or ZAPMA45200 or ...). The engine number is written on the rear of the transmission near the rear brake. the vin on my scoot is on a sticker that can be seen after removing the under seat storage and looking at the rear of the frame engine bay area.

Can also be useful once you choose an exhaust to then search other sites for it and see how they discribe it.

I see you are in the U.K. so things may be different in your part of the world, but here is my experience. I just recently upgraded from a 2006 GTS250 to a 2022 GTS300 HPE. Just before my upgrade I had purchased an after market exhaust for my 2006 GTS250. Well needless to say I wanted to move this to my new GTS300 and it fit perfectly. No modifications needed. So what I learned is here in the US the exhaust systems are interchangeable from 2006 to 2022.

Now you got me curious vespabrian - what exhaust is it you were so fond of that you swapped it over to your new ride?

physically they fit (except euro5 unless you also change the header). Strictly speaking they could be a bit different as we are talking different Euro emission/noise levels so could have different catalysts and/or different DB levels. These differences could theoretically change the air flow enough that the ecu might not adapt optimally but in practice I doubt it would be an issue.
