I WISH we had a few curry or taco trucks set up outside already. The Oregon and LA streets and warm air do look so nice.
It's 52 outside in Massachusetts, so... maybe a ride? The scoot, she is riding great today. I found a couple relics from the old industrial & agricultural ages in my neighborhood to admire. Then the sun went away again. ![]() ![]()

Two pics and two stories. Neither of these are mine:

My PK50XL2 has come back to life strong, I finally fixed the carburetor problems that made it such a pain to get started. It has a DR70 kit that has been smoothed & flowed & matched. I know , DR, but It came that way, and it's now running great after ditching the 19 carb that ran OK if you could get it started - I usually just choked it the old fashioned way, lift seat, no aircleaner & finger over the inlet then kick several times til it goes
![]() I was given a 20L which is my favorite smallie carb. It's like a bigger 19 w/ a built in bellmouth. Seemed worth a try, a simple adapter bushing on the original intake... and problem solved, now it starts easy on one or two kicks just using the stock 'choke'. So after getting everything dialed in on a few around the block short runs, I wanted to go for a long run and see what kinda power it's got. I was concerned it might be too big for the 70cc kit, but not at all, it winds nice and clean up to the moon. I took many pics, here's some samples: ![]() This used to be a bulk commodity loading terminal at the far end of the port
![]() I actually climbed up there ~25 years ago
![]() This is looking the other way, a lot of the boats going to the islands leave from here
![]() Greek Coast Guard at your service
![]() Here we have an old drydock w/ a new crane
![]() This is the main port area. A nice long straight road connects the other area and I do casual speed runs here. Hit 65 and had to slow down but there was more.
![]() Okay.....
![]() Then I met the cutest little Honda Cub!
![]() These guys were dealing w/ these big covered life rafts.
![]() These things were HUGE, as big as a house.
![]() The perfect recipe: bike runs great, weather is lovely and never ending fascinating scenery

Happy birthday and good for you on your 'short' celebration ride. That's more like a medium longish run for me any more.
But i'm finally back on my island so I expect to be stretching that out if the good weather holds. There are two 50s smallies here but only one got out of the house so far after years and needed only minor carb service. ![]() My first run down to the village to show off for my nephew. ![]() This one has lost its spark in addition to the clutch cable that snapped on my last ride the evening before I last left here 4 years ago pre Covid. Clutch cable all fixed, but where dang spark has gone???
![]() I shall be looking in here, wish me luck!

Found them! On this particular stator you must ground out the blue wire thru the brake lite somehow. This one may have a blown bulb or corrosion going on somewhere, I grounded the blue and it fired right up. But now I'm fighting getting the flywheel off to set the timing which is way off. So only partial progress, but the little red one is still running great!

We definitely need more pictures from the docks and waterfront, though. For a variety of reasons, I haven't been able to even ride a scoot the past week or so, much less wrench on one. |
