shampoo wrote: Hello ! How did you get that speedometer to stick the bike ? But few thousands km later it cracked. So I just cut hole for gps-speedo and attached it with super glue(used gel-type for flexible joins). So when speedo was attached on its mount it was easy to take it off for charging or when I leave scooter on the street near work. But on the other side it sits bit high according to handlebar. In second version for charge speedo I need remove it with speedo plug. But now speedo sits much lower and I like more how it look. ![]() V.1

![]() Here you can see the height.

Well I won't be standing up in a tree to get those tricky overhead shots, but I am gonna try to post here FIVE days in a row w/ different bikes to celebrate having all FIVE bikes here running at the same time(probably for the first time) showing you some of the interesting places around here.
![]() I'll start with the Cosa, usually a problem but it starts easy(low compression) and runs fairly strong.
![]() This is the old brick factory south of Athens, now a popular doggy park.
![]() They have some tall old smokestacks here
![]() Ppl were living in the ovens until they cleaned up the area and closed them off. Now they look like jail cells.

It's Friday and today is Laiki or street market day in my neighborhood. I waited til near the end to avoid large crowds going thru on my scooter - as long as you are careful and slow, ppl are used to it and very tolerant.
![]() Most of the booths have fresh produce, some sausage, cheese, dried fish, olives and spices as well.

This Saturday morning, I took a quick ride on my P80X up into Suisun Valley, right in my neck of the woods. It's just over the hills from Napa, California and an easy getaway. Lots of nice twisty country roads.

Zach, I've always had too many passengers to take my P200 out to Sunio, and anyway I like to scoot too slow & leisurely for most of those maniacs driving out there on that twisty road. Those little pocket beaches are my favorites close to the city.
A beautiful Saturday here too, and my old pal toeMOSS (Thomas) available to show me new places today. I wanted to see this big park at the top of our local 'mountain' near his house. He told me first someplace even higher with a great view. Also a surprise ending so this will be a lengthy post. Let's go! ![]() Yep, what a view!
![]() That patch of orange down at the port is Chinese container cranes where they have leased and are developing a big chunk of unused port frontage.
![]() Interesting graffiti is popular here, I saw this on the way down and just had to share.
![]() We've arrived at the big park.
![]() It's almost like the caldera of a small volcano in here.
![]() A view from the back entrance, where we met Nikos, a most interesting guy who was interested in our Vespas, lives close by and wanted to show me his old motorcycles...
SURE! Why not?
![]() But first, on the way out more graffiti!
![]() Uh oh! Looks like toeMOSS is having some kinda cop problem...
![]() Nikos and his old turn of the century Russian motorcycle
![]() An amazing machine with some very clever innovations.
![]() he keeps it in the stairwell, has old BMWs, BSAs, other old WWII bikes & parts upstairs and on the roof where he has a big metalworking workshop - He was a welder doing submarine maintenance and he knows how to do stuff!

I'll have to check it out next time I'm out that way Zach, can I mention you by name?
Today I took out that fast noisy smallie w/ all the old decals from the previous century, it is such a peppy little thing. Colder weather and low on gas and it was getting late, what to do? So I only went eight blocks away over to our official "Town Square" right across from our local administrative offices, or DimarCHIo. This is where they have official celebrations, etc and is a favorite neighborhood playground. ![]() a view from the middle of the lower play area looking at town hall
![]() the upper part of the square, you can see all the coffee shops and bars that line the left side, pretty much the same on the right but opposite the town hall is an interesting experiment in public housing and zoning flexibility bult ~50 years ago.
![]() The whole city block is filled with tiny houses arranged in four rows of ~twelve houses each facing two narrow access alleys open at both ends. This end of the block faces the square.
![]() View looking out of the alley I was parked in.
![]() Looking from the public street at the back of the houses which all face the alley. They are all individual w/ some nicely fixed up, and a few run down and likely uninhabited.
![]() Some kind of administrative office on the left, I liked the place on the right. You can see that many have tiny gardens. And yes, you can drive your car to your house, just can't park there for long.
![]() You can see they added a second story and use solar to heat their water.

![]() On the way back down to the water there's a charming little fish taverna tucked away down those stairs with a dynamite view.
![]() Also another one of these to remind me to slow down and drive carefully!
![]() End of the road!
And bitter disappointment, locked out!
![]() So back up the steep hill and follow the local residential street along the edge towards the main harbor and home enjoying the view.

So, I'm doing the DGR again this year and was trying to find a way to tap different pockets. I decided to ask my beer money providers if I could do a charity barbecue lunch for their staff. The Dealer Principal (at our local VW dealer) agreed so we set it up. They generously donated $300 to the cause and I got to spread the word to the mainly male staff. Had to get the sausages, bread, sauce etc from home to there. This is how.

I'm back in the USA loving the weather here and raring to go. I was surprised when all three 'roadworthy' scooters here fired up after opening gas valve, pulling choke and giving a few kicks.
I decided to take the oldest & sketchiest one out first(AllState w/ Bajaj motor converted to eight inch) before something bad could happen to it ![]() Edit: forgot to add that the quick little AllState did just fine, no breakdowns or trouble, and it still surprises & thrills me when I hit the gas ![]() Nice little park a mile or two away if I had to walk home to get my truck

Another gorgeous day for a ride and some snooping. Today I will show you the largest seaplane operation in the country and a few of their planes. I've always taken the place for granted, but just learned that it is the biggest.
![]() Kenmore Air Harbor on the north end of Lake Washington
![]() So many cool planes to see
![]() This one is powered by nine big cylinders of Pratt & Whitney Aircraft - Dependable Engines
![]() Here's a guy out on the 'runway' just taking off
![]() My favorite plane is the huge de Havilland turbo Otter, thing is IMMENSE compared to most here
![]() Another one, check out the regal snoot on this old lady. They have complete shops here and have remanufactured many of these themselves.
![]() Plane on my left just landed
![]() Planes on my right ready to go
![]() They told me could fly me and some friends up to Nanaimo on Vancouver island for some scenic summer riding etc, but avoiding a day's boring freeway traffic, border lines & hassle and long ferry boat lines for $189 each! + ~$400 per scooter...

I used to love watching the seaplanes take off and land in Coal Harbor (Vancouver, CA) back when I used to get out that way for work. I never got a chance to set them up close like you have.
My grandfather flew Catalina PBY's in the navy during WW2 after he got too old and responsible to be a test pilot. He was in the first naval aviation squadron on the USS Langley that figured out how to operate planes off carriers. They crashed a lot of planes, but lived to tell the tale. |
