I don't know much about the 946, but I did see a red one on display at Vespa Brooklyn in NYC when I picked up my GTS a couple weeks ago.

I do not own one, but I have worked on and ridden several. it's actually a wonderful bike. that 3V motor is smooth as butter, the ASR an ABS is a welcome addition. the seating position puts you up over the handlebars so it make you feel like you're flying. that bike with a 190 kit and pipe and vario would be perfect. granted it's no GS series, but it'd be damn close. smooth, powerful and style for days.

Look I did not slam somebodys specific bike - I am not a rude person !
I also say that my PK XL2 ist ugly compared to a nice rally. I think a Cosa is a piece of plastic junk - some love it ! To complete my little personal museum I would probably still put one there with a sign: "When things started to go wrong in Pontedera" For the guy in a suit that wants to ride up to the bar and impress some ladies - yes he can get a 946 Armani - sure. Tastes are different and sometimes a joke is simply a joke |

I have not ridden a 946, but have ridden many bikes like that - those that are not good for hauling stuff nor utterly comfortable for long distance riding. But boy, aren't they some fine motors to enjoy riding!

I saw one of those scooters when they first came out. It looks cool in person but the price was out of my budget. Then again I'm not the intended customer for it. And I'm not brand loyal either. I always lusted after a Italjet Dragster myself. Equally "interesting" in the looks department. To each their own I guess.

What anyone spends on something is their business and beauty really is in the eye of the beholder. The 946 oozes Italian styling and the fact it is a joy to ride is a bonus. Grocery runs? Maybe not but someone that buys this probably has another vehicle.
Hell I just bought a BMW 2022 GS Adventure fully kitted with all the extras and the amount I spent would get you a really nice car. Funny how many people really hate on the GS because it is looked at as being elitist. If you have the money and love something go for it. I'm not rich but better off than many and do donate to charity. What I buy is my business and man a 946 is pennies to the pound if you look at what people spend on "impractical" cars, boats and planes. I've seen a few over the years at the dealer here but they are rare. Just keeping looking and one will pop up but as said they don't last long on the market.

Upon winning lotto this would be my second purchase, right after the 185$ cheeseburger.
https://i.stuff.co.nz/life-style/food-drink/300602120/burger-wellington-restaurateur-behind-185-burger-says-nows-not-the-time-for-shy-cooking I think the pricing is actually not that bad given the exclusivity. If I didn't need the primavera to double as my shopping trolley I'd be all over one.

OP here I did see the one in MI a little to far for me I'll call over the Vespa Brooklyn tomorrow and see what's the deal with the one they have. I have a car so it would be for commuting and I don't need a ton of room. It's just so dam good looking I heard they ride great and I can always do a cc kit if it needs power. I'm just wondering about seating position I'm 6.2 210 and my last Vespa years ago was a GTS 250ie

It's a shame the new ones are all red, the 946 is stunning with classy colours...like white.
Out of curiosity, I checked whether my local Vespa dealer still sells them. Yep. What I noticed though, is that when I last browsed these scoots, the price was a bit under 10k Euros here. Now it is 13900€ Euros. Mayby right so, as discussed above - this is not a loss leader product. Around here we have expensive cars due to taxes...one 946 would not get even a cheap car. A BMW GS1250 would get a small city car, like Toyota Yaris or Volkswagen Polo. With that said, a GS feels like a bargain... |

Just for the record, I know two people who own a 946, one of 'em an Armani, and two things to know about both folks is (1) neither fits the supposedly narrow demographic this bike is purportedly aimed at, and (2) they ride the things - they didn't buy for the sake of having driveway candy. They love it.
It's instructional to remember that the 946 started off as a design exercise that simply ended up making it to production. Yes, the thing is principally about style, in the same manner as a lot of "halo" motorcycles and cars. You know what? No harm in that. It's just another choice in a rather nice lineup. Just as I could choose to beat myself up in a race-spdc Porsche 911 GT3, but would much sooner pick a GTS Carrera that I could actually enjoy as a daily driver (like I could afford either!), I can admire the lines and profile of a 946, then hop on my GTS SuperTech and enjoy the hell outta that. (And I do.)

It's all about prejudice about beautiful things.
After saving for many years I was able to buy a set of Bang & Olufsen speakers, five years ago. They cost € 9.000 then. For me, that's an enormous bunch of money for a set of speakers, but I wanted them badly and was lucky enough to be able to afford them. Many people drew exactly the wrong conclusion: "You pay just for the design and SO they sound like crap!" immediately followed by something like "You're out of your mind!" Well, design and function go hand in hand. And it's called 'experience'. The speakers sound absolutely incredible (I have yet to hear speakers that sound better, even though they certainly exist for half the price) and they look fantastic (in my view). Which makes the total experience of sitting down and listening to a nice piece of music worth every euro to me. The fact that also over-the-top clueless people with too much money on the bank buy speakers like this, doesn't make them bad speakers. Doesn't make the experience any worse. Even better: those clueless people might not be so clueless as some other people who look down on them think they are. Maybe the people judging them are more clueless...? Every person is different, every person has his or her great qualities. So let's not judge someone on the stuff they buy - and let's not judge stuff on the persons who buy it.

So I come from a classic Vespa and Lambretta Background. I don´t like any of those new Models but really don't like the 946.
I am German and that makes me quite a direct person. I don´t do sweet talking when I don´t like things. I have a direct sort of humour. I am focused on REAL long Distance riding and also on the practical side of a scooter. I will not be convinced of the 946. I am fine with anybody having one but me . And if you read ALL my posts you might see I also made jokes about MY OWN SCOOTER . Oh and I also make fun on people sipping Champaign while on an event with a van and their 50k Faro Basso. I consider it ridiculous where prices went for those "moped" toys built to create mobility for the people in poor Italy. Some others maybe don´t like my Stella or my Bajaj or my ride on a Scomadi. IT IS CALLED different taste. I made a joke . I have an Opinion. AND THE GUY THAT WROTE THE TOPIC AND MOST OF THE GUYS RESPONDING DO NOT Even OWN ONE Can we get over a joke now ! Have a great day on the 946 sunset parade.
