Hello, so I found, yes found a Vespa abondoned in SE Portland, OR near a homeless camp. Once the camp was dispersed I noticed this scooter sitting alone for 3-4 weeks so I rolled it on home and am trying to "ID" it to learn if it is possibly stolen & if so return it to its rightful owner & if not, possibly fix it up (if it's worth it) or sell it as is, depending on the circumstances. So on the side it reads Vespa LXV 150. I'll attack photos below and the only potential ID mark I can find is located under the seat, which reads "ZAP448FX95501370". Strangely, when I attempted to find more info n a Vespa ID site, it had dozens and dozens of models but under the "ZAP" catergory there was no 448, only 442 & a few others, so I really don't know what I have here.. I'm relatively new to the scooter world, I rode something called a scootstar roguestar 150 I got at Sabatino's vintage scooters in N Portland, even tho I got it new as opposed to a vintage one, but I'm wondering what year and model I have here, as everything I've been able to find online seems to contradict everything else. Where might I locate the VIN, & is that the best was to tell if it is stolen or not? Any help here would be greatly appreciated. Thank you very much

Kyle

Well, it is a pretty clearly a Vespa LXV and it looks like the panel which would have a VIN plate is missing - but you apparently have a VIN number. They are not hard to decode. I'd say it is pretty much a given that it was stolen.

Someone is missing that for sure.
Hopefully insurance came to the party for them.

Strange...when I enter my 2020 VIN in that decoder, it says model year 1990.

I suspect the VIN is incomplete or missing digits. I believe the LXV was first sold in the US as a 2007.

Might not be a bad idea to give Vespa Portland on MLK a call and see if anyone reported it stolen at any point.

I feel like folks give their local shop a heads up in the event someone (maybe the thief, maybe the unsuspecting buyer) brings it in for keys or service.

Pretty common in the bicycle community.

That's normal. a VIN doesn't include the *full* year.

Itt 'wraps around' every 30 years. I haven't had any coffee yet today so I'll leave you to read Wikipedia to explain in detail.

I'd put odds on that being stolen. the ignition is all busted out.

so either somebody lost the keys and was fiddling about or it got jacked.

I'd contact the local shops and police and see if anybody has reported it.
