Question for the wise folks.
When I took the foam filter out of the air filter box, it was filled with grease like black gunk, that came off by gentle scraping it off with my fingers. Then I washed it with cold water and hand dishwashing liquid. Let it dry out and then sprayed on the Fab 1 air filter oil and put it back in.
I find that the acceleration is sluggish now and WOT on the center stand was topping out at 50mph. I have ridden it now for about 10 miles and it seems fine in the city at 25-35mph but I wonder how it will perform on the highway.
When I watched a Robot video of the GTS air filter maintenance https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=e6mmxVC1Jq4 , he replaced the filter with a new foam filter but did not spray any oil on it.
Did I make a mistake and sprayed it with the air filter oil, and that is what is causing the acceleration to be sluggish because not enough air is getting through?

Did you squeeze the excess oil out after spraying?

Is the cover fitter correctly?

Yes squeezed and it is fitted correctly. Did not have to work hard to install it etc i.e. it went back in smoothly. At this point unless the wise ones chime in and say something else is the issue, Ill take it out and wash it and see how it performs without the oil.
This is my first attempt on this 2018 GTS, on the older 2010 one I did that maintenance twice a year, beginning of summer and then in November.

My 460's engine air filter is not supposed to be oiled. It goes in dry. It is possible that the weird greasy-yet-sticky Fab 1 oil is causing the issue if the 300's air filter is also intended to be dry. That stuff gives me the heebie-jeebies.

I disabled ASR & it worked fine but is now maxing out WOT at around 62-65. I have not tested in on the road at those speeds yet as I have to fix the brake caliper pin that came loose. But seems like removing the filter, washing clean & putting it back again with the oil maybe worth trying.
As always it is so wonderful to get great support and help from the members. I just love it how a community shares knowledge and information. Thanks for that.

I found the spray on Fab 1 too hard to clean(very sticky) when servicing. Went back to gas/oil mixture. I also hang filter overnight to drain excess.

My MP3 500 air filter was all moussy the first couple of times I cleaned it.
Those first 3000 or so miles had me worried...
Cleaned it a total of 3-4 times, including oil afterward, and all's well.

I have been a fan Fab for many years. If you are spraying it up to the point that it needs to be squeezed off you are a spring too much.

exactly, and need to let fully dry for 8 hrs in the sun before installing. a very light misting is all the spray is needed.
