Hello 👋 everyone,
New to the forum hop I can get some help with few problems I'm having I have piaggio Vespa 125cc ET4,

The back brake cable adjuster had seized,
It was so corroded the end sheared off I've now repaired the cable refitted it but the brake lever pulls all the way into the handle bar grip with no resistance?

There was resistance before and the back brake was working a bit but not much which is why I Trued to adjust it in the first place. Everything is free know on the adjuster side pull the lever cable and arm it attaches to BBC all moving but wheel still turns with lever fully pulled in pressing against handle bar 😕 so i don't understand what's changed to make this happen.

Other fault is sometimes it stalls when you coming to a stop, and can then be difficult to restart ?

Thanks in advance 👍

Are you adjusting it correctly? You undo the end nut, and then tighten the one in front of it. Keep going and going with the adjustment whilst pulling the brake lever every so often, to check how far back it will pull.

Hi yes I think so I know the locknut is undone but I'm winding it in so the lever goes towards the front of the scooter I've pulled the lever a few times but nothing I can't seem to find any info on how it connects to the rear brake shoes . I am wondering if when the cable was off if the lever for the brake shows was pushed forward to far can it go over centre, like falling off a cam so it then does nothing ?
I think I might have to remove the rear exhaust and wheel to see what's going on.
It's as if it's not connected, but when you pull the brake lever on the handlebar the it pulls lever on the rear no problem ?
Thanks for the reply

Manually engage the brake lever at the drum. If the brake then stops the wheel, the brake cable is at fault. If the wheel is still able to be turned the brakes, IMHO, are due for repair or replacement.

When you pull the brakes, is it moving the piece of metal just in front of the adjuster?

Can you keep tightening the adjuster until the brake lever on the handle bars only moves about an inch? If you're able to touch the brake lever against the handle bars then it still needs to be tightened a lot more.

I think you need to remove the wheel and take a look. If you are out of adjustment, you either have the wrong cable on there or something else is messed up inside.

Thanks I was thinking the same .
It's just strange that the brake lever was working before ?
I think you have to take the exhaust off at the manifold to get rear wheel off ?

Can anybody tell me if that's correct
Thanks.

I'm guessing of course, but it seems very likely the cable you bought is too long. Double check - maybe compare it to the old cable if you still have it.

It shouldn't matter how long the cable is. It's irrelevant with a Bowden cable.

It's the relation between the length of the inner cable itself and the length of the outer housing that can throw things off. You're right that if both are equally longer than the old line it shouldn't matter. This has driven me nuts a few times and maybe I'm deluded now.

Is the outer in once piece and secured to the engine?
What's going on here?
