Sunday June 19th is Fathers Day in South Africa. For those countries who are celebrating with us...

To the men who contributed at least one single spermatozoon,
followed by a seemingly unending amount of cash...

HAPPY FATHERS DAY Clap emoticon

Well I did not contribute one spermatozoon but have someone who for the last 20 years has sent me a card and or a present every father's day. Met her and her mom when she was 18 and a short time after that her adopted father passed away, story for sometime else if needed, a couple years later her mom and I tied the knot in 2001.

So now after never fathering a child I have one who thinks of me as a father and one that thinks of me as grandpa!

my dad didn't pull a single punch.

my dad burnished who I am, formed who I am. he operated on tenants of honesty, integrity and fairness.

but more importantly, my dad AND my mom made me who I became.

my dad was my confidant. he called me on my shit. he was my friend. he was my partner in crime several times.

every time I touch tools, I miss him. which, yeah, every day.

almost five years later I still think about the time we almost got into a fist fight in an appliance store because some jerk called him a liar.

ETA: these are my sons

The man I considered my dad was my stepdad of 37 years. When my mom passed, he never thought of himself as anything other than my father. Six years later, when he found out he only had weeks to live, he wanted to make it official by adopting me. It would have happened if it weren't for a paralegal's screwup. I told him it went through the week he passed rather than upset him. I couldn't have asked for a better father.

working in my industry (vintage cars and things and stuffs) I'm around old dudes all the time. and they're all basically my adopted dads, and I'm their adopted son.

some of them have been a better father to many of my friends and co-workers than anybody could imagine-- much like you understand.

I get where you're coming from on that one.

appreciate the ones you gots. they good people. hold them tight.

Before I get roasted alive...

Providing the sperm makes one a biological father.
Contributing money makes one a dutiful one.
Anyone can do that - or be legally obliged to do that.

It is the men who willingly contribute shelter, nourishment, time, love, affection and guidance that make them a DAD !

I think this celebration should be called DADS DAY !

(PS - Yesterday I had the pleasure of my grandson helping me out when I was doing duty as range officer at my shooting club. Grandchildren really are the dividend you receive for investing in children. If you think being a Dad is rewarding, being a Granddad is so much more!)

Congrats! Clap emoticon That's the "I'm not feeling it" face, Crying or Very sad emoticon which is usually followed by the "do it again, Papa!" face.

I'll have some time to wait still, Father's day in here is 13th of November This year, its always the second Sunday of November.

I was an independent semi-rebel when young. Took me quite some time to grow up. It was not until I had an own child when I realized what my father and mother really ment for me.

Luckily I've been able to enjoy time with this realization, have had some really good time with my own father and feel close to him. Hopefully have been myself a good father too.

Enjoy the Father's day, celebrate with you families or have warm thoughts with the memories!

Congrats!

It's been a long time for me, but I can still remember, almost feel the moment I gave the first bath to my own child.

Have mostly forgotten the nappy business, though

You are in for some good times, Malcolm.

I know that you are going to enjoy having that guy around.

We were fortunate enough to have two good kids

Took care of them in every way from birth through college, when they spread their wings and started their lives without us by moving to big cities to work.

We only see them a few times per year, but enjoy those visits a lot.

Can't vouch for both, but Sam's a great kid...we were just talking about him this weekend!

You're a lucky dad.

You'd have to understand my kid, but yesterday at our motel they went over to the packaged Danishes, grabbed one, tossed it on my plate and said Happy Father's Day! I was actually impressed! Facepalm emoticon
