will check voltage at switch in the AM both high and low - i believe scoot must be running (not just turned to on position) to do this yes?

and i'm guessing that i would be checking the two taped red leads and using a good ground clipped to the motor.

is it passing the voltage on? to one of the 3 or 4 sockets that i can see = find out via ohms what socket the 2 violet and 1 brown wires go to yes?

or are we back to the earlier shorted relays?

is there any way for me to send along the newly acquired GTV wiring diagram?

thanks

Or other good ground.

Lets just get as much info as possible - you might want to draw out a diagram of whats going on yourself, and make notes on it. Sometimes when you're stumbling a bit in the dark you can go round in circles.

You could ask your local dealer?

Yes please. Email works, file size irrelevant.

wires leaving the switch go to a 10 pin socket:
#3 pin is the brown wire via ohms test
#4 pin is both the front and rear taped red wires via ohms test
#5 pin is both the front and rear violet wires via ohms test

I have noted the colors of the wires leaving the socket match those coming from the switch as well as the the other 7 pins leaving the socket.

I was about to check the voltage to the 3,4 & 5 pins but could not turn the scoot on with socket unconnected ............

so I connected the socket, turned on the scoot and lo and behold MORE MYSTERY

the head light warning lights on the dash have gone off, the head light hi beam flasher works, the 5watt running light in the headlight housing works and no headlight

confoozled i am

and on top of that

the switch was loose in it's housing so once stabilized the lights high and low and flashing are working

molto moltissimo misterioso

Sounds like you miht might have had two faults in series - the worst scenario for fault-finding!

The 10-way connections may have been iffy - solved by exercise.

The hi-lo switch may have been on the edge as well.

Hopefully you now have some things working solidly again.

Jim

I find that words cannot express my gratitude

That goes both for you personally and the whole Modern Vespa community who has been a huge help over the past 10 years since before I bought my scoot (IERI is her name) up until this present adventure.

I wish I had more time to visit as this group also is hugely entertaining! Clap emoticon ROFL emoticon

Hopefully Friday I'll be able to put IERI back together

Also I now have something to add to my electric lexicon "Exercise" can sometimes be the solution

Sorry to end on a somber note, but I want in closing to share that this past weekend my cousin's 34 year old son was killed in a motorcycle accident and hope that every one who may happen upon this .. Please be careful out there drive defensively always

Thanks
