Friends! Finally I managed to find an original GL from 1963! i won the auction yesterday and have to pick up the wonder tomorrow. I'm really looking forward to seeing it in real life.

It was advertised as a px150 for reasons that you probably understand

How about those caps, the seatcover and the floor mat - will they date back to the '60?

I will report back after pickup!

I hope not!! Facepalm emoticon

The kickstart looks like a GL, but perhaps the PO moved it over

Congrats from a 1962 GL owner!

That all looks pretty legit and original. Mine had the same seat and grips, but my grips (and everything else) were pretty thrashed, so they got replaced.

It's a ton of fun to ride.

Looks like it's in pretty good condition under all the dust. I hope the paint is good enough to save, and that you won't mind a few flaws after you buff it out. I love original old bikes that have been well used AND well loved like this one apparently has.

I'd sure like to know the backstory on that PX150E sticker though. Awaiting your findings when you take possession. Also, WHERE are you? Popcorn emoticon

I have never seen a battery version of the GL here in Denmark before.

Who or what was Luchi, what happened in 1935, and why is it labled as a PX150E ? Curious.

Nice scooter. I hope you enjoy your find. Looks like something Ricambi vespa from ebay Denmark would get and part out one piece at a time. Very very original including the accessories.

The GL we got in North America had small differences then the European versions. The horn on north American gl's were slotted but different then other slotted horns and very hard to find. The European horns were the flower type. The legshield center emblem were plastic while the American one were metal. We didn't get a lot of seat options upgrades besides the gs160 seat and later the sprint seat. In the vespa tecnica books they only describe the European GL horn and trim and not the American version.
American GL..with non factory painted legshield letters. But factory horn and legshield middle emblem are different then euros version.

This is driving me crazy. As you can see in the video I had it running ok.

Left it for a few days. Played with a semi stuck clutch and now I can not get it started. Not on carb cleaner or anything. Great spark. Compression feels ok, but I do not have a teser.

I have a feeling that gas/fluid is not comming to the cylinder. Any ideas? What Can I test/try?

Could I have ruined something running it the other day?

Is your plug wet or dry? If dry, try squirting a spoonful of gas in the spark plug hole.

Ready to join the Bad Timing Scooter Club? Laughing emoticon

Seriously. If you have compression, fuel and spark, it should pop at least few turns. Leaves only possibilities of spark timing being off or a popped oil seal on either side of your crank.

Pop off your flywheel and have a look. If it's not that, drop your oil and give it a sniff. If neither of those are off, check your ignition timing with a strobe.

That was what I was thinking

Timing~~ would that have changed over a few days

Seals is more likely, right? But with gas directly in the ploug hole, that should not make a difference?

Clogged exhaust?

Fuel from the spark plug hole should make it pop over despite both of the crank seals being off. Leaves in the timing and since it is a points system you should also check them.

Exhaust can be dropped easily to make sure it is not about that. One trick is to gap your spark plug to 0,5mm to surely get a spark under pressure too.

Changed the gap to .5 with no result.

Would the timing have changed from the other day?

spray some starter fluid in the carb opening - if it fires you can know you've plugged up your jets from the first running the other day

You are right

Since I have a nice blue spark, would that not indicate that the points are ok?

Should mean yeah, still worth taking a peek.

I remember that I had a spark with these when kicking over but did hardly run at all.

Got them working again by sanding them but now they are gone again. New set of points is waiting to be installed.

Since you have ok compression, good spark, And fuel(however you get it to the combustion chamber) I would pop the flywheel off and check the condition of the woodruff key.if that sheered you get an instant timing change. and you can check the seal on that side. I'm looking forward to the old gal run!.
