I ask that question to the Allstate FB group and the consensus was that early handlebar scooters until sometime in the mid 50's had a center badge. From then on only the Allstate badge on the right side of the legshield.
There was also a period when there was a Cruisaire badge on the right inside of the leg shield.
Sears was all about building to a price and every penny counted.

The Allstate 100 had it's own unique badge. 101 and thereafter ran without a badge.

First small project completed and wheels back from powder coating.
Seat frame was disassembled, soaked in Evaporust and repainted (need to get all outdoor projects like painting done before winter) then fitted with a new Pascoli cover. Original badge will go on when rivets arrive.
Working on disassembling the front end so fork can have upper shock bracket welded on then everything off to the powder coater for a nice fresh silver finish.

57 years of use

After Evaporust bath

Ready for cover

Rather tired looking original

Preview of things to come

Just waiting on rivets. It will go on centered and strait

Easier to keep clean powder coat

Needed to get the rear brake pedal pin out and most of the solutions I found required removing a floor rail.
Made a miniature press by grinding the sides on the fixed end of a 2" C clamp to fit on the underside of the pin. That brought it up,level with the top,of the pedal so the bent needle nose would fit under the pin head and bracing it on the hammer head was able to get the head above the pedal. Gripped it with vice grips and tapped it out the rest of the way with the hammer. Quick and easy with no paint damage.

Ground to fit

I looked at the SIP. Parts explosion and realized the pin had a cap on it. Then it was just figuring out how to get it up enough without damaging anything.

Got inspired by your brake cable upgrade on your last project.

Not possible to fit that adjustable cable on an Allstate, but the PX cable with the eye fits, barely.
Feels great to look down and see that eye there.

I have a couple of those PX cables in my spares box.
I fitted them to both smallframe projects and was thinking it might work on the Allstate.
Thanks for the photo confirming it will fit

Tank cleaned and shock top mount welded on.
Finished stripping last things out of the chassis (wiring loom and upper and lower steering races). No it can just go to the car wash with the motor for a good degrease.

Just as removed with no cleanup

I am in awe! In 1964 I was nine years old and my parents would take me and my brothers shopping at a sears that existed up in north park near the old DMV in San Diego. I can't say I knew of Vespas back then, but I'm guessing they had one or two on display. The first time I ever saw a Vespa it was a P200e. We were waiting for the light to turn green at the bottom of Texas st in mission Valley. A guy pulled up on it, I looked over at it and i never wanted any type of vehicle so badly. Searched for information on what the name or brand was and within 1 week I looked at 2 P200e s and bought the second one, not even knowing how to shift it or anything about it. It was so amazingly fun once I learned how to drive it. Got my motorcycle license and drove it for the test. There was a Vespa dealer and shop in PB (pacific beach) where I bought a bbq rack and a big vespa fairing to make it mine. this was around 1985.
Now, what your doing here with this allstate and being 77 lets me know that at 66 driving my recently acquired new to me 1980 P200E around my country club neighborhood it's good to know representation of the angry wasp gang is truly legit. looking forward to more of you progress. Thanks for the posts and pictures. Peace

That seat cleaned up very nicely. Great find. I love the look of the Allstates/VBB. P series bikes were also the first Vespas I ever saw. The VBB I bought was the first large frame I ever saw up close. Good luck with your project.

I took it to a local radiator shop that is set up to also clean gas tanks.
Last winter when I redid the P200 I cleaned the tank with 20% industrial vinegar.

Picked up the last batch of powder coated parts today.
Time to start working on the chassis. Treat rusty spots, spot prime larger bare metal areas, straighten some legshield and floorboard bead sections, polish and wax the whole thing.
Then assembly can begin.

Those tin parts look fantastic. I have never been a patina guy, but it's such a nice mix of wear and tear, warmth and texture. Definitely worth the effort to keep original. I think a nice patina ride is harder to pull off than a respray. Doing just enough without overdoing it.

Thanks. My goal is to bring all the mechanicals into the 21st century.
Pinasco drums, SIP shocks, all new suspension bearings and seals, Pinasco 177 with Mazz 57mm crank, 24.24 carb, Malossi box pipe, 65/22 primary Cosa clutch with Clauss swingarm and shock bushings.
Simply rub, buff and wax body and ride it. Looking forward to the adventure of 8s

Very nice scoot you have there. Love the MM light. It's special and unique.
Feel fortunate that she is a late 1965 with the MM light and that it still has the original Italian reflectors.

Back working on Lucy.
Removed the outer rails, straightened the bead and the rails.
Ground off the rust on floorboards with Dremel flapper wheel then sanded whole area with 120 then 400 wet. Treated with Eastwood fast etch, 3 coats of red oxide primer and 6 coats of wax.
Came out well for the look I'm after.
Needs some more polishing on the inside of the leggy, fitting the leggy trim, runners and new rubber in outer (it was missing when I got her).
Then on to polishing the rear section.
Promised myself I would finish polishing the whole frame before I dug into the tub full of new parts but it's very tempting.

Rear section on the left was rough but not too deep.

This will do just fine

Hopefully just a few more hours

With everything polished up time to set things together.
Lucy is exactly what I wanted. Clean, solid and showing her 58 years proudly.

Lucy is finally back on the ground. Took a while to get the front end built.
Next install the headset and fit all the cables and wiring.
Matt at Mercato will be assembling the Pinasco 177 this weekend.

Fitted an MRP centerstand relocation bracket to avoid any interference with the Malossi box pipe.

This is looking so good, but time to check something out. Its hard to tell from just one picture, but your front wheel seems too far back in the mudguard. Maybe just tweaked mudguard or even could be a slightly bent fork. Or maybe it's just the angle of the pic and there's nothing to worry about.

Here's a reference pic, 1965 AllState w/ the wheel well centered.

Notice the clearance between mudguard and legshield too. What's yours there?

The bottom leg and the main shaft should be parallel and on the same plane.

Thanks Terry

When I had ir all apart I checked the fork carefully for any damage.
Also there is no wrinkling at the bottom of the legshield that would indicate a front end crash.
Here is a better photo taken strait on.

What is the part between the kickstart lever and the center stand in the picture where they're laid out on the towel? I have not seen that piece and I'm wondering what my Allstate is missing now…

Your bike looks great btw. I'm following along to hear how the pinasco 177 treats you. Going to be building one of those engines up soon hopefully.

Item A is the mirror bracket I sourced from Mercato https://www.sip-scootershop.com/en/product/mirror-holder-mounting-at-steering-head-screw-left-or-right_61089700

Item B are tie down loops that mount with the kickstand bolts
