So if I want an additional key... do they need my (only) additional brown key, or does the code card by itself do the job? And will Piaggio in the USA do it?

2 keys aren't enough, IMO. If I do anything stupid (which happened today), I need more repositories. It's especially stupid if you accidentally lock the useless remote in the storage area, at least the system should detect it and beep and go "naw, you don't want that".

But it locks like Jaws on a bikini clad swimmer.

You will soon come to realise that amongst Piaggio's many shortcomings they are also pretty useless in the technology department.

You do not need to order a new key from Piaggio (USA), you can get a key cut from a local shop, and use your brown master key to program the new key using the instructions in the owners manual. When choosing where to get a key cut, it's useful to note that Piaggio use the same key blanks as Fiat. The code card is a pretty ineffectual item. I've heard of people getting a key cut from the code card and it still does not work, so take the master to a key cutter.

Not true for MP3 models - at least the 500's. Completely different sidewinder keys. Mon'n'Pop keycutters won't be able to do this.

The key code card is totally useless. Except for applying Bondo I suppose...

I don't think that Piaggio "Master" card was supplied for applying bondo nor ordering spare keys.

I have a 2020 500, which I bought from the local dealer. It had been traded in with 60 miles
I didn't get a remote, but there are 2 keys including the service key
The key has a chip which allows the seat to be opened as long as it's within a few feet of the bike.

The procedure for programming keys looks like you can program/register 5 codes
Same blank as Dodge & Fiat

Piaggio just assigns a random code & the computer on the bike registers the code
Fiat assigns the code so the key matches the cars computer
Seems like a transponder car key place can probably get you going

Hi, a question, as my 2022 don't arrive to my hands (long story).

This is the second time I read that the key has a proximity system to be able to open the seat with the button? This is true? I ask because rather the system seemed very bad to me if anyone could open the seat without the key being present just by pressing a button and I have thought of different alternatives to avoid it ((yes, I know that if the key is removed in the lock position it is not possible, but in case the key is removed in the Off position only)

Thanks in advance

If the key is more than a few feet away from the bike the seat button is inactive, no access to the trunk

The key in the ignition if you press in & twist, one way opens the gas door, the other the seat, mechanically

I can say (now as I receive my new MP3) that the information about moving away from the motorcycle with the key and this disabling the opening of the seat is not correct. The key can be miles away and if it is not put in the lock position and it is only in the off position as the key is removed, the opening button continues to work, so access to the trunk is free for anyone

Well blow me down, actually never realized this, seems my seat has been left opened all the time as I hardly put the steering lock on at all, unless in a dodgy area, suppose I should have read the manual. Facepalm emoticon

I design a system to take ride about this using a small timer and a immobilizer. Maybe a little "to much" as can be done putting a small on-off switch somewhere before the push button, but I like that be automatic.

Every Piaggio bike I've owned has been the same. If it's unlocked - it's unlocked, that's it. Not "somethings are locked but not others". Plus it's very convenient to be able to open the seat/trunk/whatever while the keys are elsewhere.

True now that I know, this is my 1st Piaggio always had bikes before, and yes it is handy as scoot is in garage, so I do not need to put key in scoot like I done before. Facepalm emoticon

Yes and no, in the old MP3 (IE the 2007 250) you have a remote to open the seat instead of a button, so no one can open if not have the remote on hand (no button on the bike). And the receiver stop "receive" if is not used for 48 hours to safe battery.

In my case I found it very inconvenient to have to lock the steering wheel if I got out to run a quick errand or was stopped in a small space, and that's why I made a proximity system. If I move away from the bike the button is disabled, if I get closer it works again.
