You'd think I have better things to do!

For fun, I thought I'd remove the DB killer from the Akrapovic muffler on my Sprint 150.

It's no small task to remove it. I will get a slide hammer to get it out because that's how Robot does it. I got the screw out using an 8mm socket. I was afraid to use the 4mm allen key.

Then I read some MV history, and most (not all) say its way to loud.

So then I find a you Tube video where the guy uses an aftermarket DB killer and it sounds like this product from Pipe Werx hits the middle ground of noise level.

Has anyone tried after market DB killers on their Akrapovic mufflers?

Today I bought a $28 slide hammer from Harbor freight. I applied it to the baffle n my muffler and on the first pull it came out. It's a sweet sound and I like it. I can see how it might get too loud.

I wonder if it will get quieter with the after market baffle I ordered.

We shall see. But I love the un baffled sound initially!

Here's how it sounds

My search for the mentions of Akrapovic mufflers showed many comments that it was too loud without the baffle. I rode by bike again yesterday and it's louder but I don't think too loud. I wonder if the other comments were from larger bikes. Mine's a 150. And I wear a full face helmet LS2 Valliant 2 which does reduce sound. Right now I'm happy with the sound level.

Stand behind the bike with no helmet and have a friend play with the throttle.

Is that to teach me how loud it is? I'm not sure I want to know.

But I have ordered an aftermarket baffle just in case!

I think steelbytes was suggesting you might also want to know what the neighbors or the local LEO think about the sound.

Wait wait

Now I can honestly say: gee officer, to me, the noise seems quiet to me. I wouldn't want to disturb anyone.

A Vespa sounding like a hoot for a couple seconds as it passes will only annoy miserable people who, if not for you, would just find something else to be miserable about anyway.

Your bike sounds great. You don't need anyone's approval. Enjoy it.

I have a non-baffled GPR Stainless exhaust on my Piaggio Fly with Malossi 190 kit and it is gloriously loud.

It's not to everyone's liking and isn't too obnoxious unless I crack the throttle open all the way.

It's your bike, do what you want.

And no cop is pulling over a Vespa for loud pipes!

Next part of the saga. I ordered an aftermarket baffle from Pipewerx thinking the no baffle Akrapovic would be too loud. The baffle arrives from the UK tomorrow.

Then I'll use Niosh SLM, (an IPhone app) to measure the dB readings of the bare muffler to the new PipeWerx DB killer.

Then I'll take out the new DB killer and ride my scooter anyway!
