Darwin Awards contestants, your ride awaits:

It appears good ol' Segway has something similar in performance.

My future son-in law, who is pushing forty, has always seen me on a motorcycle or scooter and wanted to learn how to ride. He has no experience on them, so I suggested a MSF course rather than use my motorcycle as a training bike. He did not follow thru, but bought a scooter like the one described in the video. It does 25 mph on the flats. I suggested some decent gloves and a bike helmet at the least. Well, it is both a blast to ride as well as bit dangerous. He fell off it within a week , got laid up with a shoulder and ankle injury. It's now up for sale. I think it would better used for someone half his age. If nothing else, a younger person would recover from injuries faster.

I'm actually looking into either a Apollo City or Ghost escooter. Going dual motor either way. But then I see the crashes on them and wonder if my 50+ year old carcass can handle hitting the deck, because I think everyone will fall on one at some point. But I purchased a new ebike (Cero One) that I've rarely ridden since receiving it. Great ebike with excellent build and component quality but it doesn't have a throttle. If your first ebike had a throttle, no matter how little you used it, you will miss it if you buy a ebike without one. I have my Cero One now listed for sale.

This is totally nuts!!

The craziest I have personally seen on the BQE was a guy going about full speed on a Revel electric moped. All of 30 mph in about 55 mph traffic. And I thought I had seen it all...

Funny (okay, not-so-funny) story: A few days ago I was in Brooklyn, sans Vespa, and decided to grab a Revel to get to RevZilla to kill an hour or so. Found the only two closest to me near Carroll Gardens, on a street that led only to the BQE (just one of the several categories fo thoroughfare you're not supposed to roll a Revel scooter on). Had to do some creative sidewalk-surfing to get onto t proper side-street and get back to proper riding. No, this doesn't stop idiots from taking the things wherever the hell they care to, and odds are that any cop who does see them won't be bothered to collar 'em.

But it looks so much fun!

The new model costs $3600 and available Q1 2023

I can just imagine me in full armor pants and jacket and full face helmet at age 71 tooling down the road.

It's crazy of course, but maybe I'm already crazy!

How would you like to insure the life of a young man who just bought one of these?!

He wants to buy a million dollar policy! Would $1000 a month premium be enough?

What good is a top speed of 80 going to matter? Until you can register, title and insure it, the scooter is regulated to the side of the road like a bicycle. You want to get all hooligan and blast down the road, the police will have something to say about it. Side note - in my area, there are many that get around on golf carts. In order to take them legally on the road, they have to be registered and insured. Of course, about half of these people don't bother. These are the dangerous ones because rules ( stop signs, filtering into traffic) don't apply to them. I have locked up the brakes more than once because they pull out right in front of you, sometimes with children on board! I think a lot of the same line of thinking goes into the future buyers of these scooters. Between the E-bikes and these scooters, EMTs are going to be busy.

Over the summer here the number of people doing crazy things seems to have increased ten fold. I nearly cleaned up one of these scooters head on while filtering through stopped traffic. He thought it was a good idea to filter the wrong way down the street with his little sister on the back.

That's amazing!! During the Tour de France, commentators were amazed when several riders hit 60 mph on a downhill section on bicycles.

For my sister in Florida, it was worse: about a year ago she was driving along an avenue when someone on an e-push scoot literally came out of nowhere and turned in her direction, leading to a direct hit. The person on the scooter, who apparently had no nearby next-of-kin, was rushed to hospital, where he later died. She cooperated with police, who eventually cleared her of wrongdoing. Didn't make her feel a hell of a lot better, though.
