The dealer has confirmed my breakdown was caused by a faulty Fuel Pump which was as expected but annoying as it cost me a missed weekend in Weymouth with my mates on a Scooter Rally and a boring sit in the side of the road for 4.5 hours waiting to be rescued when a Piaggio Recall could of prevented it.

The replacement fuel pump now has to be ordered from Italy and I think it being August the Italians are probably on their annual Holiday break so I could be waiting several weeks before I get my Scoot back.

Anybody else in a similar position?

I did a VIN check on the Piaggio recall campaign site http://static.piaggio.com/recall/form-vespa.html and mine came back as not affected. I'm not too sure how effective this check is, so I am not overly confident that my fuel pump won't need changing sometime in the future.

Yeah, August is the worst month of the year for industry in general in Italy. A huge number of Italian companies shutdown for summer holidays during this month.

I hope your wait is not too long.

My dealer ScooterWest called and said my '21 300 is in the recall and they'd order the fuel pump. They said they had a total of 88 bikes in the recall - only one had an issue. Also said it would take 5-7 days to get the part (12 days ago) Still waiting.

However I just used the above recall search link and it says there are no recalls on my bike. Weird.

Stay tuned

Had the fuel pump replaced (recall) on Friday. Done while I waited. Took about an hour then a few more minutes for the oil change I was due for. Great service from ScooterWest/Vespa of San Diego. Bonus is chatting with Robot while I was waiting - though for a bit of the time he was on the roof repairing their air conditioning. Proof he can/will do anything.

I forget that you live in the same town so the chance meeting with Robot may not be such a big deal.

To me it seems like running into the President or the Pope or Tom Brady (you pick your own celebrity) and not getting a picture taken.

Perhaps the next time when you are in the presence of greatness you'll record the event!

was chatting to my dealer yesterday and he said that they are replacing the pumps before the leave the store and have a list of people to call. Also said they were having to wait on getting enough new pumps so delays in selling new scoots.

Ha ha ha. I took a trip out to Portland/Seattle a couple years ago. We were in Portland for the first day and I wanted to stop at Vespa Portland to get a souvenir.

Unfortunately the shop was closed but I messaged the owner on Instagram if there was some way I could get a shirt or sticker before we left. He ended up coming down on his day off to not only open the shop so I could get a souvenir, but he also gave us a big tour of the whole shop. Crazy thing though when we first pulled up he says "oh forgot to tell you I have a special guest with too…". No way Robot! Had to get a pic. Both Andrew (Vespa Portland) and Robot were incredibly nice.

Brought Thelonica in the day after she died on me (thankfully) just a mile from home. At first they tested it and couldn't fine a problem, but the morning I was to pick the bike up (and pay an hour's shop fee for the trouble) the dealer called me to say there was a recall and they were getting right on the issue…and, of course, waiving the fee. Got the bike back in a week.

Wow, what a cool picture Snoopzilla! And you had a way to message the owner! Robot is my Uncle Vespa. I'm going San Diego someday to meet him!
