This f'n app!

If anyone knows what gods I have to sacrifice to in order to make this app work, please let me know.

After getting my Vespa back from the shop, I noticed that my bike was no longer sharing ride info with the app, so I thought "well, I'll just reset the app and re-pair everything and everything will be hunky dory." Silly me.

I've done everything I can think of. I reset the Bluetooth on the bike. I've deleted and redownload the app. I've "forgotten" every BT device from my iPhone. I've rebooted the phone. I've. Done. Everything.

I can get the phone to pair with the BT-Router of the bike. But the app keeps giving me an error that it can't connect.

I can play music from my iPhone to my Vespa, but of course I can't listen to it because I can't use the app to connect my headphones.

I will gladly buy a beverage for anyone who can help me solve this puzzle. Thanks in advance.

Vespa: 2021 GTS SuperTech 300
App version: 2.3.5 for iOS
Phone: iPhone 13 Pro Max
iOS: 16.0 (20A5349b)

You're on a public beta of iOS 16 so that's probably your problem. Not all apps play nice with beta versions of the operating system. Try a device with the current iOS to see if it works...

Now the public release of iOS 16 is out. I'm now having the same trouble. I thought I recalled a permission that needed to be set… or something? I did set Use location data always to ON. Still no app connection, though BT Router is connected. Hmmmm … I'll keep searching.

I'm pretty sure nothing will be working until Vespa updates for iOS 16 comparability. Their last update was a weeks ago.

Apples new release of IOS 16 knocked out my two credit union apps too. App developers were supposed to make their own updates in anticipation of the new operating system. The Multimedia app for our scooter is no exception. They will all catch up eventually.

But dammed it,,, I knew that I shouldn't do the update/upgrade until Apple had their own update as IOS 16.1 available. The alternatively offered update by Apple as IOS 15.7 instead of this upgrade probably would have a similar apps crashing result anyway. Who knows. Just wait it out for both the Multimedia app and the new IOS 16 to make their next updates. The IOS 16.1 is likely been planned already. And so we wait ,,, until the apple gods decide what they will do next.

As far as I'm concerned, this is on the app developer. They know that a new iOS update is coming every year at this time. And, they have access to the developer beta for months beforehand.

That said, I'm sure it's not a large team working on this for Piaggio. But, if they are going to make app integration a selling point for their scooters, they need to make that app a high priority. This is not a good look.

Have you noticed how IOS 16 sucks the battery out of your phone for two days as in the background it updates all of your apps, that is apart from Vespa that guy is still on holiday! How hard can it be to make a simple app work?

That's something that irked me a couple years ago. Since then, before installing a new whole-number iOS, I switch off auto-update for about a week and manually update twice: once right after the install and once the week later when I turn auto-update back on.

Now my frustration is just limited to needing to reset my Apple Watch after a major update.

Actually 16 didn't do that to mine. Battery life has been normal. No intergadgetry glitches either.

Edit. My Garmin GPS now talks to me at about 10x normal speed.

I never could get the app to let me connect a Bluetooth speaker. Is it only a headset that it will recognize? I just assumed any Bluetooth would work.

Your problem is mine too with same version of GTS, iOS and Vespa app.
They need bug fixes.

Updated the app and got my cellphone and Bluetooth headphones connected.

My headphones seem to top out at about half the volume if I run them through the app/Vespa pairing, as opposed to when I connect them directly to the phone. Also, I am unable to adjust the volume through the on-bike toggle.

Has anyone else run into this and, if so, have you found any solutions?

Thanks!

Updated the app. Connected iphone to dashboard, connected app to dashboard. Had trouble adding helmet bluetooth (a uClear AMP Go2). After several attempts & failures, shut off the bike, restarted the iphone, and tried again - connection successful. I missed this feature of my Supertech, and am glad that its all working again. Maybe the Vespa mothership could proactively address this next time. (Right?)

Also I do not have the volume discrepancies you mention, Timmy. I get a "Volume up" confirmation on my headset with an upward push of the joystick. Likewise down, and Next Song works as a Right short-push, etc. all good.

What's the appeal of having an app for your freedomachine?

Sure, it's not for everyone. As a computer scientist though, I enjoy and appreciate technology. I like being able to see what's playing on my dashboard, and adjust my playlist or its volume or see who's calling and refuse a phone call with the joystick. I like seeing my ride's current performance stats in real-time on my phone. I like turn-by-turn on my dashboard. I get that that's not for everyone, but it all appeals to me 😃.

With me just moving to a new state and not knowing how to get anywhere I like having the NAV on the screen. Also getting a little more info from the phone and scooter in one place is helpful to me. Also being a retired Network Admin I like to have Steelbytes app on the phone if I want it in a Ram mount instead of the glove box. And having everything on the Vespa's screen frees up my phone for important things like watching my porn.

The last sentence was a joke.
