This has happened to me the last 2 times I took the Vespa out.

I leave my driveway and by time I get to the end of the street at the stop sign, I can't pull the rear brake lever. It's stuck in the out position.

Yesterday, after playing with it a bit, I was able to pull real hard and it eventually freed itself and started working. This is a bit of a scary situation with not having a rear brake.

Of course, my 2 year warranty just expired about 2 weeks ago. Any ideas? I have not called my dealer yet and he's about 75 miles away. Not real convenient.

Call your dealer. There was a brake recall that might include your scooter.

Had this problem on my 2018 GTS300. Had the ABS controller replaced. Not cheap!

If you don't mind, how cheap is not cheap?
I'm thinking of picking up a late model GTS 300 this winter if possible and have been seeing brake and fuel pump issues,
savings aren't huge and may not be worth it for a used bike though taxes and fees are rather high on new Vespas in California

If I remember correctly, it was about AUD800 including labor.

600~800, plus install figure somewhere in the 8~1200 range all in and out the door.

That figures. My Vespa is just out of warranty this month. I checked my vin # and it is not part of the brake recall. I haven't been able to talk to my dealer yet but will today.

I have also posted about it on other threads. It seems to be a problem that keeps coming up with the ABS unit.

Right now, my Vespa is unridable as the lever is completely stuck and i have no rear brakes. My dealer is about 75 miles away.

I have filed a complaint with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) here in the US. This is a serious safety concern and one that I hope Vespa will address with a recall.

If anyone else is having this problem, please file a safety issue report with the NHTSA.

Sometimes the distributor or manufacturer will do a courtesy repair if the bike is just out of warranty. You might be able to get them to do that by calling Piaggio USA and explaining the situation, once you know what the situation is. Take it to a dealer. Have them diagnose the problem. Then call Piaggio, once you know what the problem is.

That's the plan. Now it's just a matter of getting it to the dealer.
