One Sunday in early September that seems like a typical summer day, I take my "Vespa" and go for a ride to "Pozzuoli", near "Naples". I park my "vespa" on the seafront, I go to a "bar" to taste an aperitif, and I take the opportunity for some photos ... good vision
island of Capri seen from Pozzuoli
"Baia di Bacoli" , "Capo Miseno" and "Monte di Procida".
Panorama of the historic center of Pozzuoli. Behind can see the island of Nisida of Naples and in the distance the coast of Sorrento ...
view of the island of Capri and on the right "capo Miseno" and "Monte di Procida".

I've been to Pozzuoli twice and walked up to the top of the nearby volcano Solfatari.
A very nice place. |

Vespone,
You are right. I was lucky to live in your area for four years. Great people, great history, great scenic beauty, and wonderful food. When I moved off the NATO base to Lucrino, I had the the US Navy send my monthly eating allowance to a restaurant in Arco Felice. I would eat there as often as I could. The Italian family that owned the restaurant would let me eat in the kitchen when the restaurant was full. I was like a member of the family. What super memories of a wonderful people. I have never been able to recreate the quality of that food here in the USA. Here are some old photos of the area Bob Copeland Greek temple near Lucrino

Vespone,
In your great current photo of Lucrino, my rented Villa was "center of the picture up the hill on the left". That hill was directly behind my villa. I was a short walk to Largo Averno (Greek mythological entrance to Hades - the under world). Bob Copeland Looking across Largo Averno - My Villa was on the left.

Vespone,
You live in such a majestic and beautiful part of the world. I often wondered if the local folks become to use to it. I would love to be sitting for hours at any of those vistas smoking a good cigar while sipping a Strega liquor. That is what I am doing right now in Minnesota. Ciao and salute amigo. Roberto Copeland Notice the Strega Liquor glass. Watching American Football. I would rather be seated at one of your beautiful vistas.

Vespone,
I always enjoy your photo posts of the scenic coast in Italia. When I was off duty, my favorite ride on my Ducati was South of Naples on the Amalfi coast. There were tourist back then (1970), but the area was still out of the way and quieter. Your photos are crisp and new - mine are reproductions off slides from 50 years ago. The area is timeless. Bob Copeland I love the Layered Vineyards all along the coast.

When you can, keep those photos coming if you are out and about.
What a beautifully scenic world that surrounds you. I miss Red Vino locale out of the barrel at the local negozio di vino (Vine store). I always had empty wine bottles banging around on the backseat floor of my Fiat 500. I had to have them at the ready if I drove by the local wine store in Lurino where I lived. The local negozio di vino also had a few tables out front. You could sip wine and have a quick hot plate of spaghetti al sugodi pomodoro. The best to you and your bella Italia. Nice pics Vespone!
Wife and I have been to the Amalfi Coast a few times now. There is so much to see and do there. Simply Beautiful! We're planning to go back to Italy next Summer but I think we'll be spending some time exploring Apulia. Her family lives about 1.5hrs away from the Amalfi so I'm sure we can do a day trip...at minimum. The granita is so refreshing..... |

I am a lover of these shoes, I own about ten of them.😁 |

Vespone,
You have good taste in shoes. Timberland is huge here in the USA. I have a local store in my town that exclusively sells Timberland. I expect those shoes from 50 years ago were not Timberland. I do wear Timberland now. Florsheim, Rockport and Dockers also make exceptional loafers. I am so dam old, even blue jeans had not hit Italy when I was there. The local Italian men all wore dress pants. I expect they looked at me in my Levi Blue Jeans and thought, "those Yankees really dress down to casual". Side Story, I was in the US Navy. We would meet at sea unofficially with the Russian Navy and trade Levi's for Vodka. They were just getting big on Blue Jeans and wanted Ladies Levi Jeans for their wives and girl friends. Of course, when I went back to Italia on my honeymoon in 1981, every young guy was wearing Levi Blue Jeans.
