I have a modular, so I typically flip it up for a quick in and out at gas stations, convenience stores, fast food pickup, etc., if it's not too hot. If it's above about 90 degrees, though, I'll put it in the top case. An inch of styrofoam insulating my head is too much when I'm hot and not moving. Conversely, it keeps my head warm when it's cold during quick stops.

All the time. Modular helmet open.....McDonald's , Tim Hortons, villiage grocers, gas stations, Taco Bell, coffee shops.....always take-out.
No one freaks...not once.
Leaves both hands free. Keeps my head warm in winter, helmet secure.

Not the only one! Our dog, all 40kg of labradoodle, eats vet only hypoallergenic food that comes in 14kg (31lb) bags. Fits nicely on the floorboard between my knees. I do take my helmet off to go into the vets.

did that 2 weeks ago. My bank has a security guard. I walked up, stopped in front of him as he stood just outside the door. He moved aside. I said 2 years ago you stopped me for wearing this. He said he remembered, waved me in as he held the door for me. Strange change . When I got in line, I still removed the helmet so I could remove my ear plugs and hear better.

I do not have time to mess with my glasses and the stupid little helmet liner beanie thing I got going on. If someone in the store considers me to be rude for this I gotta honestly say that we all got bigger fish to fry. I'm trying to get to work on time.

In high school there was a kid who rode a motorcycle (several actually). But this one guy would walk into the building wearing his full face helmet with the shield down and proceed down the halls all the way to his locker where he would remove the helmet. At the end of the day, he would put the helmet on standing at his locker and walk all the way from his locker, to the motorcycle parking area and ride off. It gave such an odd impression to everyone. This image has remained in my head and is why in 40+ years of riding, I've never worn my helmet into a business establishment.

I always remove mine and stow it in my topcase. I never like to draw any undue attention to myself.

(said as I stride through the store in my armored black and yellow Scorpion touring jacket)

If I had a spot to stow my jacket I'd probably do that also. But gloves and helmet always come off.

I don't think I have ever actually seen anyone in the store with their helmet on. On a side note, early in the pandemic I did see a guy in the local grocery wearing a full respirator and open carrying a pistol strapped to his leg. It was a crazy time, though.

As for me, maybe it's just self-consciousness, but it always comes off. At 6'7" 92 (2m), I already scare people enough.

My glasses, that is indeed another reason for me to always remove the helmet.
I need glasses for reading but not for far sight, so I ride without glasses.
But in a shop or at a gas station I do not feel comfortable if I do not have my reading glasses readily available. And with the helmet on, even with the visor flipped up, it is too difficult to get the glasses on.

Glasses.

Modular helmet (LS2 valliant II) goes on first. Then with chin guard folded back, I put on my glasses. Then chin guard down and I roll away.

That's one of the reasons my helmet stays on for short stops. I would have to mess with my glasses again.

Sitting behind a windshield with wrap around bifocal safety glasses is fine for wind
I love the wide field of vision & it's cooler
The visor doesn't catch when I turn around to look...
I think it would slide pretty good should it come up

Switched to Bell w/ a shield at least for todays grocery run, I've had several qualifers, including a snell rated one
The difference, the styrofoam liner is hot glued in
Now the liner being able to move is now a feature MIPs

When people are interacting, it's important to see each other's faces and the movements of their facial muscles. That plays a big part in how we read people and decide if they're trustworthy or not. With a helmet on, you see a lot less of the face and the mimicry is deformed because of the helmet. That just doesn't help in open, friendly and trustworthy communication.

I feel the same.... about facemasks.

FF lid guy here: about the only time I don't remove my helmet is when filling up at any gas station; no issues communicating to attendants (well, here in Joisey, where you hand them your card and have them punch in your info and preferred blend, and then they hand back your card and the nozzle if you're on two wheels), and no need for shouting.

Admittedly, I've gotten the drill down damned good-and-quick for removing glasses, removing helmet, replacing glasses, and getting on with my off-the-bike stuff, but I understand folks going with modulars to cut down on the extra moves.

Times Three: HJC RPHA 70ST, crash-tested twice. I just stick with what works, so far.

For more context - I'm a woman, and shoving my hair back into my helmet is a pain in the a$$, hence my wanting to just leave it on when I'm going to be in and out of the store in a couple minutes. LOL

Interesting responses so far!
I leave mine on for going into stores unless I know it's going to be more than 10 min. I have a full face, and for errands I don't put in my ear plugs (around town the wind noise is meh) and I can pause my music by poking a button on my blu-tooth. And since I also wear glasses, I have to take them off, take off the helmet, put them on, and reverse to get the helmet back on. So yeah, I tend to leave it on for quick in and out things.

And about the hair, I have long hair myself and use a Diva-Do by Raci-Babi, can not recommend it enough!!! Seriously makes helmets on / off so much easier, and keeps my hair safe while riding at speeds. Little pricey, but worth every penny IMO.

during the delta surge, I'd keep the helmet on even when making bank deposits. The security guards didn't flinch so I figured what the hey.

I will only leave my helmet on in small mom and pop convenience stores that I'll only be inside a minute or two. Other than that, I take it off.
Might want to reconsider that. I have a friend who's family has one of these stores. Know how often they've been held at gunpoint by people covering their faces? It was only really traumatic one of the times, but still. They are probably the last place I would walk into wearing a helmet.

As for me, it really depends on the venue. ATM part of the bank, helmet can stay on. People part of the bank, helmet comes off.

No reason my laziness should make anyone feel uncomfortable. I can take it on and off while walking to and from the door so it's not like it takes any more or any less time out of my day.

Pre-covid most places would ask you to remove a helmet, then we had the whole mask wearing time which shops actively enforced, and so I don't really bother removing my helmet anymore.

We don't have to wear masks, but we're allowed to if we wish to. If someone has the right to cover half their face with a mask - I can keep my helmet on... that's my mentality anyway!

Sweet looking helmet.
The white paint is pearlescent, even better in person
My wife has a cold weather version with a breath box & chin dam
Came with a double shield, I switched the hinges to standard for mounting of a photochromic shield
The range in price is nuts from mine at $89 to with mips nearly $300, the graphics jack the price too
The availability of shields & parts looks good long term

How about that. My cycling helmets are all MIPS but I didn't know motorcycle helmets came with MIPS too. Who knew!

I sometimes leave it on when I'm running into a restaurant to pick up order-ahead take out, since I know I'll be in there for a only a minute, and putting it in the top box and then having to swap it out for bags of food sometimes makes for awkwardness unless you have extra arms. I once went into a bank with my helmet on just to grab deposit slips, and noticed many heads suddenly turn my way. I suddenly realized it wasn't a great look.
