Hey guys, I went to check out a Primavera today as I thought I really wanted one. Bike looked fine, seller was cool, but what a freakin' disappointment the Primavera is compared to my 12 year old Vespa S!

Can you guys please help me make small frames great again??

-----------------------

Issue #1: On my current Vespa S, my topcase's padding comes to BEHIND the end of the seat. Passenger can use all of her seat and then a little more behind it.

On the Primavera, the topcase and the backrest hang over the rear seat, so the passenger can't use all of her seat, gets pushed forward into me, and we are more cramped.

Is there a way to mount the factory topcase BEHIND the end of the seat, rather than over it? Any parts/suggestions/pics welcome

-----------------------

Issue #2: On my current Vespa S, I can store TWO full face helmets. On the Primavera, we can't fit any full face helmets.

The Primavera's under seat storage has this notch in the pet carrier. It's a cut out for what I believe is 1B0045715 - PIAGGIO VESPA - FUEL FILTER CANISTER.

I'm assuming that means it's the charcoal cannister for the evap system? Is it possible to eliminate the evap system, then get a pet carrier from another region that doesn't have that notch, and therefore have a bigger storage space under the seat and at least carry store one helmet?

-----------------------

Help me Modern Vespa. You're my only hope.

I'm impressed you can fit two full-face helmets. My GTS fits zero.

My girl's ICON will only fit in the top case, not under the seat... but my Arai fits in either spot, so together we can still make the "two helmets one scooter" thing work.

------

Pic of the current Vespa S mount for clarity:
On the Vespa S, we have a nice little gap for my passenger to slide her fine booty all the way back and give me lots of room. On the Primavera the top case takes up room over the seat and pushes her forward making us both less comfy. Any advice?

Ain't that the solo seat?

Yes trash the evap and get a pet carrier from a country that doesn't care about the environment. Or NZ.

Possibly? Not sure. Would it come less far back than the non-solo seat or would they both be the same length?

I'll look for a thread with info on this, thanks! Looks like ScooterWest will sell me the bucket if my local dealer can't... but I'm sure he probably can if it's available from Piaggio.
Additional seat pic if this helps.

Had a lot of success finding info on evap system removal for the older LX motors, and the GTS300, but nothing for the Primavera or Sprint. Has anyone done that before?

Pretty sure this is it from scooterwest, insulation sold separately.

Also OE rear rack makes the perfect backstop for my passengers on my 2018 Primavera

Hey CC - does your rear rack's cushion overhang over your rear seat, or does it stop well behind where the seat ends like on my S:

Yeah you got it. That's the right part number. Bigger issue is just the CO box that sticks out would interfere so that whole evap system needs to go. (pic below)

I'm also wondering if our helmets are going to be too wide to fit under the seat even if we switch the bucket to the 673615 no evap bucket... I'm going to ride down to the local dealer as they're closer and get their input.

So look for a nice, low mileage fuel injected LX - there are plenty of them out there. And then kit it if you choose . You don't sound like the kind of guy who would want to pay the price of a new Primavera anyway.

The top box/back rest in my Sprint looked like this.
I believe Primavera has excatly the same set up.

It is closer to the seat....but the useful part of the seat is still useful, no major difference there

A word of warning - I had the Euro spec pet carrier, no evap hump.
Still, my full face Arai, size M, did not fit under the seat...nor did it fit to the OEM Sprint/Primavera top box

Unfortunately, there are not many of them out here or I would be all over it like white on rice. I think they came out around the time Piaggio's Canadian distributor was breaking relations with Piaggio and the Vespa scene got really weird on the industry (blow out prices, market flooding, lawsuits back and forth, etc.)

I would pay for a new Vespa Primavera 150 RED edition, but, that's the only one... and it would still have to fit a helmet and my passenger comfortably first

Obviously I know nothing about the Canadian used Vespa market. How difficult is it for a Canadian buyer to bring a used Vespa across from the US? As I observed, used LX's appear to be readily available over here.

Thanks so much for this RRider. I'm glad you said this because I just came back from visiting Vespa Toronto West, my local dealer. Lou, the owner, was super helpful. We took an eletrica top case and dropped my medium Arai in there and based on that we *think* it would fit, IF the evap system was removed. Based on your experience though, it sounds like the results may vary.

Re: the top case, I could use a folding rack, which would put the top case further back, but then would have to macgyver something to mount the stock topcase to it.

Not sure I want to spend the money on a Primavera on two "maybe it will work" scenarios, and run the risk of being a little less happy than I am with my Vespa S.

I'll sit tight on the S and keep my eyes open for a FI'd LX, or else go GTS, I guess.

Thank you guys for your help.

I think RRider is right, bucket and cut out on seat bottom is pretty shallow compared to the Buddy 125 I had that fit my extra large full face helmet fine.

Here is what I do with my no D-ring helmets but they are $80 helmets and I live in a low moisture area

^ lmao. I messaged a GTS seller who I met last night to try to talk pricing with him. We'll see.

I was also wondering...

The ET2/ET4 had a 4 year run.

The LX/S/LXV had a 8-ish year run.

The new Primavera/Sprint has already had a full 10 years...

Think we'll see a new Primavera/Sprint for 2024, or are they really just putting all the small frame R&D into the eletrica no one wants?

I'm assuming you guys don't have top cases on your GTS'?

Just to be clear I meant I can fit two full face helmets between 1 under seat and 1 in the case.

My full face fits in the Vespa OEM top case of the GTS I'm looking at.

I don't have a top case, and I can't fit my helmet under the seat. I hook the D-ring on the fang at the front of the bucket when I want to park the helmet, and I only do that in places I trust people not to vandalize it.

250/300 is fine and dandy.

200, not so much.
No love for the fabulous GT200?

I am disappointed.

I love the 200, it's just the parts are getting harder and harder to find.

as somebody that services them it's difficult to enact a repair when a part either doesn't exist or you have to spend hours tracking one down.

a lot of people don't share your passion for the 200's and aren't willing to drop significant amounts of coin or wait ages for repairs. they just want to ride.

For what it is worth, only a very few people on this forum ride scooters more than me.

12,000 to 20,000 miles per year, almost all of it on three Vespa GT200s.

All three are running very well at the moment.

Mostly because I ride them.

They do need maintenance and repairs at times, but I have found parts needed for these relatively easily, doing most of the work myself.

I gave up. The advantages of the Primavera/Sport over my LX/S just fall short of the disadvantages, for my particular wants/needs.

I'll keep my fingers crossed that, the Primavera being 10 soon, means something new will replace it sooner or later. Or maybe I'll keep on waiting for a rare low mileage fuel injected LX or fly down to greasy.

In the mean time though, life goes on, so my 12 year old Vespa is for sale, with 30,000 km (19,000 miles) worth of stories to tell.

And I picked up this beautiful GTS 250ie with about 2,000 km on it (1,250 miles). Bought from the original owner, an older gentleman who seems like he liked to look at her more than he liked to ride her.

She has never been dropped but has some signs of pitting on the bar ends that I'm hoping will polish out. She also has one scratch of a few mm by the rear brake fluid reservoir, and she has a very ugly windscreen that has to go. The seat looks like something spilled on it and was never washed.

I'll change all fluids and filters myself over the winter to keep busy, and have the tires done at a shop in the spring. Besides all that, she's perfect and has been garage-kept.

My total cost after bike/parts/taxes for the near perfect 16 year old girl will be roughly 38% of what a new GTS would cost me.

That leaves a lot of money to play with for a seat cover (if necessary), suspension upgrades, or even a Malossi 275cc kit if I'm feeling displacement envy when a 300 pulls up beside me.

But, considering the Vespa I'm coming off of, I'm pretty sure I'll be very happy with the 250ie once I've sorted her out.

Stay tuned for a lot more Vespa content.

buy a wrecked LX ie and just swap everything over! problem solved!

this little S has grown on me. not gonna replace my ET any time soon, but it'll be a fun little commuter and run about for a while.

*eyes the 190 kit on the shelf*

you're gonna love the 250 in every possible way.
