So, I sold my 2009 MP3 500 6 years ago, and I've missed it since, but keeping myself occupied with my other rides.
I have an acquaintance that has the exact same bike with 4800 miles on it. He only flies in every 3-4 months and uses it when he's in town.
He had it serviced regularly, but the last service was 2-3 years ago (<1000 miles ago), so refresh my memory-what do I need to have done at 5000 miles? I sold the fork bearing lubricating bolt with mine, so I'm sure I'll need to repurchase them.
had one front tire changed due to a flat, otherwise original rubber. I assume the belt is original

Ballpark figure to have the 5K service?

TIA

I don't know how close you are to San Diego, but this place has been around for awhile and I often buy parts from them. They can probably advise you on the service and pricing.

The big services for my MP3 are every 6k miles. I seem to recall I paid around $500 -parts and labor- for the first 6K service (bike has 9K now). Tires were not part of it. Major thing was new transmission belt and variator parts. Other than that the usual (oil, filters) and they recommend spark plugs but typically they only get checked?

One thing that isn't in the manual but is in a service bulletin is to grease the front bearings (need a special tool for that). Some say you should grease the front bearings every 3K miles.

Personally, I get an oil change and front-bearing greasing (as well as an inspection) every 3K miles. My mechanic knows I am a long-term customer, so I can trust him. He has a blank check for doing anything he deems semi-necessary on top of the recommended service, and has never abused it.
