Does anyone have a tip for reinserting the spring/c-clip (#4)?
It's a real son of a gun after removing.

I have changed out a few of these ignitions.
That clip is a bit of a pain, but I have managed each time. I suggest looking at it along with the slots. Once you figure it out, it becomes logical and easy. Bill |

Oops, The #2 clip is the part I was thinking about.
I don't recall having to deal with that #4 spring. |

Hopefully this helps use one of these to help put pin in. ( Couldn't find a straight one, joys of lending tools) or a thin screw driver.
pics below put right hand side of pin just in slot (green arrow) Then with pick put in left side into slot ( red arrow) also keep a slight finger pressure on top of clip ( yellow arrow) Push home once both sides of clips inserted but dont force it. Then insert key barrel whilst pulling up clip very slightly till the ring around end of key lock clicks in. Can be a right pain in the butt, but eventually it will go. Good luck Nancy ![]() ![]()

Thank and Yes it is indeed a pain when still on the bike but the garage across the road let me use their ramp and stuff when they finished for the day which is good even gave me a key so can use it anytime. Brilliant with the wet Welsh weather we have here in Ceredigion. I'm sure we have lots of different word's for various types of rain in Welsh like the Intuit's do for snow.

Well, I got in somewhere? When rotating the key I can see the pins up!? Something tells me that isn't right!

You know part number 25 will be the last one for you to install. It just clicks on once the whole shebang is in place.

No, because that clip is what holds the tumblers in. On the tumbler, you will see the grooves where it's supposed to go.
First step to installing this is to have at least two on hand. And don't make whatever mistake you made trying to install the first one that caused it to fly off more than once. Clip the green plastic thing onto the end of the tube. That's what gives you resistance while you push the tumbler in, so you can hold it in place and put in the staple looking clip. Put the key in the tumbler, and insert 'the tumbler into the round thing with the words on it, then press it into the tube, so the end of the tumbler goes where it's supposed to, which is evident by the shape of the end of the tumbler and what you're trying to put it in. Then, push it in until you can see the place to insert the clip that looks like a staple. I have used a set of needlenose pliers that are very long and skinny with some success to get it started. Usually it's easier to get it started on one side, then use the needlenose pliers to open the clip slightly and get the other side started. Once you have them both where they are supposed to be, push down on the staple clip with a finger. Then push it again down into the slot with a screwdriver. I've dropped a bunch of them, and having at least one extra prevents taking the glovebox and floor off to find it. The first time you have to remove the floor, you will get them, and often a surprising amount of screws and fasteners, back.

Is anything missing? What is the very last thing you put in when you replace the ignition key tumbler? After you put in the silver thing where the key goes and the round thing with words on it? It's shaped sort of like a staple and you can see it in these photos someone was nice enough to post.
https://modernvespa.com/forum/post2583563#2583563 You will need to fish it out again if your intent is to be able to turn your scooter on and off with a key. But as is, you can use a screwdriver with an immobilizer chip.

I don't know what you're getting at, but the key is turning, stiffening and starting perfectly now.
The issue we were struggling with is the clip in the second picture. |

I pull the clip up 1/8 to 1/4 inch, push the tumbler is the clip. The clip sometimes drops into place or just a slight push to seat the clip.
