Hello!

Just wanted to show you my motorcycles, so that you know what I'm talking about should you read me writing about them!

PRESENT BIKES:

My favourite, the Moto Guzzi California 850 my dad bought new back in 1973. 330.000 kilometers and still running strong!

My 2007 Vespa LX 150, makes me feel 16 again, what could I ask more of a bike?

External inline image provided by member with no explanatory text
The 2003 Kawasaki W650 I bought third-hand last December. She's my workhorse. Took me some months to restore it properly but now runs fine.

FORMER BIKES:

The 1995 Suzuki Bandit 600 I bought second-hand in 1998. Sold it three years and 40k kilometers later. A real deal, never missed a beat.

A 1971 Gilera Arcore I modified for track days. In the end she weighted 5 kgs less than stock, even with a full fairing. Capable of 135 kmh max about, more stable than nimble.

Plus there're a 1973 Cimatti Bat Boy and a 1954 Mi-Val Sport but I can't find any picture...

You're welcome. Now here's the impertinent question of the day...

how do you decide which one to ride?

Triumph Bonneville
BMW G650GS (going to Italy)
BMW F700GS
Vespa GTS250ie
KYMCO Venox

Me personally I go by what matches my underwear. Never know when you might get lucky, you don't want to look like a slob.

Well there's a reason why most of my bikes are red, or black. Or a mix of the two.

Seriously, the Guzzi is for pleasure solo riding, the Kawasaki is the commuter, the Vespa is under a cover the Cimatti is a souvenir of my younger years and the Mi-Val is going to leave soon.

Thing is I recently bought a car which is way cheaper to run than the Kawasaki.
Plus I'm not going to need a motorcycle that's good for commuting, travels and off-road together.
Plus I have some mileage goals I want to achieve: reach my personal 100.000 kms on the Guzzi (40.000 missing), reach a total of 400.000 kms on the Guzzi (70.000 missing) and do an Ironbutt ride with the Vespa.

Sooooooo things're changing, I plan to sell the Kawasaki in a couple of years (as soon as we go over 100.000 kms), sell the Mi-Val, and keep the Guzzi for solo riding, the Vespa for everything else and the car for the family.

We'll see...

Surprisingly smooth, especially over speed bumps with such primitive suspension much smoother than my Vespa GTS 250 over speed bumps.
The Yamaha is a bit slow with a GPS speed of 32 mph but apparently can be made to go faster quite easily but fine as it is.

I bought this & sold our land yacht [subaru outback]
After a couple of trips, we decided we didn't enjoy traveling all that much & preferred sleeping in our own bed & the lack of scent snipers [glade plug ins] which give me migraines & shortness of breath
We stayed at a motel in Midland TX next to stockyards. There were wall mounted scent snipers right at eye level that made me grab my rescue inhaler nearly every time I left the room. We stuffed a towel under the door to keep the stink out

The GEM e2 needs some mods to extend the range, plenty of mods for range & speed available:
Bigger batteries, different gear ratios, controller reprogramming

Toolbox was removed
It's a nice little take my wife to the doctor, grocery/lunch getter
Spins the tires on dry pavement, tops out at 25mph stock
Federally legal on roads with a speed limit of 35mph or less
Kind of like towing an RV in the mountains, if the line of cars behind me gets too long I pull over

Our thought is to rent something or take an Uber, train or plane should we need to go further together.
Solo I have scooter/MP3
Longer term an I'll sell one of the motorcycles, since my wife quit riding
I see that in my increasing decrepitude, the liberty is easier to ride. I like the bigger trunk & higher top end of the mp3
