Engine management lights up when riding? When I come to a stop ignition cuts out ? Can restart but as soon as I stop happens again ?
Turn of engine off with key and restart works fine until engine management light comes on ?

Any ideas?

Check the voltage at the battery when you rev it a bit - if it goes above 14.6V (going above 15V is a real tell) then your regulator has shorted out. This is not uncommon, and the CEL coming on when accelerating is a prime clue for this fault.

Also get the battery tested, as over-voltage will rapidly bring on battery death.

Hi jimc

Check battery reading idle 12.34v slight rev max going to 14.2v ?

Would this still be the regulator?

Seems like the regulator is working fine. If anything, output especially at idle is on the (very) low end bordering undercharging.

Next suspect is oxygen sensor. What type of fuel do you use and how often is the bike driven & for how long?

A bike that is only used for very short trips may never get the chance to fully charge the battery, which is why I always recommend a smart charger such as a Optimate 4 for any bike.

How many miles or kms on the bike? And has the battery been load tested? Ditto on battery age. A static voltage reading is pretty much meaningless.

Could be oxygen sensor. Its readings are used only within specific RPMs, so maybe it is not checked on idle.

the o2 sensor is used during mid to low rpm including idle. it's not used at high rpm.

does the 12.34 remain at that when idling for a few minutes? or does it creep up to 14?

Slight rev no use. Rev to at least 3,000 rpm.

my HPE holds 14 while idling at 1700-ish. although iirc it does take several seconds after first start in the morning to reach that

My old Fuoco needed higher revs than that. You can't assume that an HPE's system is similar to an older 500.
