There is something intriguing about violence without any attached guilt. Watching two robots (and really, robots is overstating it -- they're just glorified RC cars) tear each other apart in a ring is rather entertaining.

The Star Wars movie? Can't remember. Might have missed that one.

Just finished watching Andor, though -- quite good.

Oh man, back in 2015 I went to Vallejo and watched days of BattleBots live! It was fucking amazing! The vibe in that warehouse arena was surreal. Hearing and seeing it live was insane. I honestly haven't been able to watch an episode on TV after that experience...

I know, right?

The bots with large spinning masses (minotaur is one, but there are several others) tend to be the most deadly, shredding the opposing bots to pieces.

Seems like minotaur is able to capitalize on it's low COG...

I would say that most successful BattleBots have a low CoG, but the spinning mass ones especially need to stay low, or the gyro effect when they are off-axis will be devastating.

Here's a bot called Tombstone, considered one of the most deadly ones:

Used to watch the BBC original, 'Robot Wars'.

Silly fun .

I've nowadays been more interested in Robot Football...happened to see a match live and got caught into geekiness of it. As this is a 'true AI' event, it also shows how difficult it still is to make it really happen...cue to earlier Tesla discussions

This is a bit slow vid, but includes good commentary:

yeah me too.

In 1998 the house robot Dead Metal flung its 6000rpm circular saw across the arena and embedded it in a concrete wall, narrowly missing show host Jeremy Clarkson. A good case there for emerging sentience, but poor aim, in those early robots.

We watched BattleBots when it first aired. It was fun to critique each Bot before the battle and analyze the outcome.
