Hello Everyone,

I am having some issues with my Vespa Elettrica, i'm wondering if anyone can shed some light on them for me. I haven't used it for a few months and have recently tried to start it, and had the below issues.

1 - The Auxiliary battery is dead, so I hooked up an external one until i get the correct size (I wont be riding like this, i just did this to make sure that was the issue).

2 - when I go to see if the scooter moves, kick stand up, me sat on the bike, kill switch in run, there is no 'READY' light on the dash??? why else would this not be illuminated?

3 - I sometimes get a random continuous beeping tone that i can't stop unless i turn the bike off with the key. (Please see the video linked here > https://youtube.com/shorts/2Z4t2MJKgV4?feature=share )

4 - When i turn the key on, and the display boots up, there is a little yellow engine light on in the bottom right of the screen, I cant remember seeing that before??[img][/img]

I don't own an Elettrica, but I do own an electric car (Nissan LEAF). When the vehicle battery (not the traction battery) is discharged or dead, the car's drive system will not "boot up" or operate. That is because the vehicle battery powers the electronic control system. The "check engine" light on the lower right is just another way of telling you that there is a malfunction and the vehicle is not ready.

Thanks Dooglas,

Is there anyway you can get more information about the check engine light?? like a fault code or something?

That is probably a question you should pose to a Vespa dealer or attempt to look up in a Vespa Elettrica shop manual. I would guess the CPU would throw an error code at the same time, but I have no special knowledge about that.

1) The auxiliary battery needs to be correct. Mine was doing crazy things until I swapped the auxiliary battery for a correct fresh one.

2) Ready only appears when you press and hold the bottom black button on the right hand side for a few seconds.

3) This is a "feature" of the Elettrica. If you press and hold the centre button on the right hand side of the bike, it activates this beeping noise so cars and pedestrians can hear you. I've never wanted to use it!

4) The warning light shouldn't be there, but fit the correct 12v battery and I wouldn't be surprised if this disappears and all is well.

Little update..

I removed the old dead battery, and put it on charge. After about 14 hours on charge it managed to come back to around 10.5V. I thought it might be worth a shot to see if the bike would work now.

When I connected it back and fired her up, I still had the yellow engine warning light on the dash. i had a little OBD-2 diagnostic reader and an adaptor for the diagnostic port under the seat. i plugged that in and managed to clear the codes. the yellow warning light did not go away until I held the map (which i think is super confusing for non car/bike people and should be called mode) button down for a few seconds, the engine light went off and the read light came on.......great job.

Thanks everyone. I hope this helps some other people down the line.

Is yours a 30mph or 40mph version? If it's the 30mph version, then next to where the power cable is, you will find a button that "jump starts" the 12v battery (if you need it in an emergency).

Glad to hear you got it running!

Once the bike is in "Ready" mode, it starts charging the 12v battery, so the key is to get it into "Ready" before you play around with settings etc.

Also if you press the Map button, it will cycle between Eco, Power and Reverse. Once you've selected one, hold the button down to lock in that mode. Word of warning, reverse also has the mandatory beep!
