Hey all,

Just debating with a friend about the specifics of an engine swap into a v90.

He states the 4 speed ET3 engine won't switch to 4 gear in a v90 chassis bc the shifter tube won't allow you to switch past 3rd gear.

I disagree but I really don't know for sure.

If I were to compete this engine swap, would I need to change the shifter tube from 3 to 4 speed as well?

Thanks for your input!

Pretty sure-o your friend is wrong-o.

Resisdent cool guy Poi Dog swapped a pv125 engine into his 90 frame/headset and it shifts to 4th with no issues at all. Shift tubes are the same to my knowledge. Only issue would be if it's a pre 66 90. But, that has to do with the engine spigot that goes through the frame, not the shifter.

I figured as much!
Thank you!

Does anyone else have any references that verify this? Thanks so much.

Friend of mine also has a 125 4-speed engine on his 90 frame so no issues there.

The only issue you might have is trying to take out the spark plug.

like others said, it'll fit. if it's early small door getting at the plug is a trick but doable. just paint an extra dot on the shifter tube.

to note, you'll probably want to run new shifter cables-- at least inners when you do it.
