Modern Vespa

hi, i have problem to start (electric start or kick start) my vespa when weather is cold, the indicator is my turn signal lamp doesnt on. but when the weather turn warm or hotter my vespa normal like nothing happened.

anyone have the same experience?

Hard starting in cold weather sounds a lot like valve adjustment, but your indicators not working sounds like electrical.

I don't know much about a 2008 LX, but do the blinkers normally work without the bike running?

the blinkers works normally if weather turns warm or hotter, i check the blinkers first before i start my vespa, if the blinkers on, my vespa on too. it sounds weird but this happen to my vespa.

How is your battery?

i replace my battery 5-6 months ago.

What does your blinkers have to do with it? Could this be an electrical problem and nothing to do with the starter? Does the engine crank over when you try to start it? With the Kickstarter is there good compression?

the blinkers just indicator i found when my vespa wont start in cold weather.

in the morning or when cold weather i put my key in and then start my vespa with electric starter the engine crank but my vespa wont start. and then i check my blinkers, my blinkers off.

when weather getting warm or hotter my vespa on like nothing happen and i check the blinkers on too.

now (in the morning or cold weather), i always check my blinkers first is it on or off before i start my vespa, when blinkers off my vespa wont start, if blikers on my vespa on too.

If it's cranking and won't start in cold weather it could be two things. (Probably more, but these are the two I can think of.)

1. Valve adjustment
2. Battery can't handle the cold

I have seen a proper valve adjustment make all the difference in cold starts. I've also had batteries that just didn't have enough oomph to start the bike when the weather got cold.

One way to check is hook a charger to the battery and see if an additional 12 amps will start the bike. If it does, then it could just be the battery.

I switched my Chinese bike over to a lithium battery and never had any starting issues afterward.

What makes me think it isn't battery is the kick start is also not starting the bike.

An LX generally won't kick start with a bad battery.
