If these guys made a Euro5 2-stroke engine then that is really amazing.
The principle of a 2-stroke with oil mixed with fuel seems to me impossible to comply with Euro5 regulations.
The article does not say anything about it but I expect it will be limited to a very specific, clean burn type of 2-stroke oil.

This example, albeit pretty rarified, seems to have already hit the road:

From what I read in the German motorcycle press, the solution seems technological and less oil based.

For example direct injection after closing the ports to avoid the dirty exhaust of old two stroke engines.

As long as it's really loud, I would too.

The Ditech, and something similar Kymco came up with, used a quart of oil every 4000 miles, when they worked. Typical two stroke scooter was about every 6-800 miles, if memory serves. So there are ways to lubricate one without putting so much oil in the fuel.

And how much oil does an HPE use 🤣

emphasis mine.

DiTech and that kymco thing can all be fired into vast gaping maw of outer space, or, parted out and separately thrown to incinerate in active volcanos on six different continents.

which ever is more convenient.

I used to tell people that the only way to keep a Ditech running was to live next door to the guy who invented it.

Other than being a Ditech, the SR50 was probably the best, or only 50cc two stroke lc scooter sold in large numbers here in the US. Malossi has a kit to convert it to a carb motor, so if you find one with a blown engine that someone's almost giving away, it's worth picking up.
There are some guys in Orange County who stuck a Malossi RC-1 motor in one, and if you've ever been passed on the 405 by a 50cc scooter, you've probably seen it. It's got a total loss ignition system, and they say it's good for about four hours of lights off a car battery under the seat.

That's for the warm fuzzies, guys. A friend recently snagged a partially disassembled Morini-powered DiTech in trade for a box of ammo (~$90). Of course, it doesn't run, the pump is inop and there are some center panels missing. We believe it's kitted and found a fresh upgear kit in the pet carrier. I told him it would be spring before I gave it more than a cursory stink-eye.

I will say, it's a big SOB for a 50cc.

The PX made it all the way to Euro 3 which is compliant with the low emissions zone in London still.

being able to ride an already purchased euro3 in london is different than being able to buy a euro3 in the uk. Piaggio did stop selling for a reason ...
