I'm looking to buy a used Vespa in the new year and can't decide whether to buy a more modern twist & go scooter like a Primavera 125 or go for a more original Vespa PX 125 with gears. I don't mind gears but was wondering which model you think would be more reliable in the long term.

I would prefer the Primavera, expecting it to be more reliable and cleaner running with its fuel injection.

Would you be riding it on purely a CBT and L plates?

I've currently got a Sprint Sport 125cc and am having a go at doing the MOD 1 and MOD 2 tests myself without any lessons, but then I'd be limited to an automatic.

If you did get the PX 125 and took the tests, you'd have free choice in the future for a different bike if you wanted.

The Primavera is going to be more reliable out of the box. However, properly maintained, there's nothing wrong with the PX. I enjoy shifting, so that's where my loyalties lie.

This both are not comparable!

I have both: PX 125 and a modern with automatic (GTS)

PX = good for crusing, not as agile as the modern models, 125er will be the determined soon too lam (rather take 200er). You yhould be able to maintain it by yourself. Not necessarily a daily driver.

Automatic Vespa: more agile, lively, uncomplicated.

Buy both!

Agreed, buy both if possible. However, I disagree on two points: 1)on daily driver - it is possible on a PX, just maintain it. 2)the Primavera is probably a little more complicated with the addition of a fuel pump, ECM, O2 sensors, etc...Fuel injection is definitely a better system the the carb, but carbs on these are simple and very easy to take care of.
