Need? The answer is zero of course. There are many other makes of scooters on the market that are both less expensive, more reliable and have better industry support than Vespa.
In my Province, there is only one (1) authorized dealer and it's well over a 5 hour drive one-way. Not exactly the kind of support required considering all the quirks a Vespa has. I like my GTS250ie, but when it starts to fail and needs expensive repairs and parts I will likely go to something else. |

You at least need a small frame to act as intermediate between the moped and P-Series. Then the common rule of N+1 will come into place.

Lovely show.
I like a few but I struggle already keeping up with the different insurance policies and road tax and MOTs on my vehicles. |

We currently have two Triumphs, two Royal Enfields, and a Vespa GTS300.
I obviously need one more Vespa.

Ones enough now I'm 66 and ache working on them.
Only trouble I have 2 but I have just been contemplating getting rid of the ET4 125 and the copious amount of spares with it and keep the 250.

One GTS 300 one modern Sprint or Primavera 150 and one oldie
But to be honest, I'd be as happy as a pig in slop with only my new LKQ 300GTS The little one on the left will be re-homed
My some day ride, P200E. In the mid 80s 3 of our scooter gang had Riva 180s but the chosen 1 had a black P200E, we drove those little bikes all over hell and creation.

I look at Vespas the way I look at whiskey sours: one is too many, two ain't enough. (That said, I'm cool with one.)

You need at least 2 scooters - a primary ride and a spare. Beyond that, it is a question of how many you want. To quote Han Solo - "I don't know kid, I can imagine quite a bit."

Ideally one of each of the good models over the years would be perfect.
But I would settle for a new GTS300, Primavera 150 and vintage Rally 200. Modern large frame, small frame and my favorite vintage. Instead I have three almost identical early large frame GTs. 2005, 2006 and 2007, plus a Yamaha Xmax and Zuma. The old Vespas require a bit of maintenance, so having three means that at least one is running well all of the time. Usually all three. I find that to be a pretty good collection. Bill |

I'm less about "all Vespas" but I am very much in favor of multiple scoots for multiple purposes. I have my GTV300 for distance touring, my Liberty 150 for groceries and work commuting, and a C3 50cc for shenanigans. I am very much considering adding another 50cc of some sort, so that I'll have a scoot for a friend to ride if I wanna drag them along.

In my humble opinion , as many as you have room for , but leave one space for a Honda 250 as a go to scooter for when the Vespa lets you down. I bought a 16 year old Honda Foresight 250 and used it almost every day for 4 years , it ran perfectly with no issues . May not be everyone's cup of tea , but you can't beat reliability, it keeps my blood pressure down

I'd say 4. That said, I have to figure out which ones I need to get rid of to get to 4.
One show, one workhorse, one screamer and one oddball to keep you smiling. |
