Typically no, but if the scooter feels like it's stumbling or not running as smoothly as before, you might want to do a slight upjet. Take out what's already there, and go up about 2 numbers. On the four stroke, sometimes you can go up a couple, but nothing drastic. And it runs and drives just fine without upjetting. The upjet will take advantage of the slight increase in air flow. We didn't get the 2T LX here though, so I'm not as familiar with them.

Thanks, I contacted malossi and they told me to upjet by 10 sizes on my lx50 2t, should I go with the OEM filter sponges or get the malossi one and not upjet it.
I heard not upjetting it can kill the engine but maybe that's only for exhausts

10 is way too many. maybe 2 or possibly 3, but more than likely it'll be just fine without anything.
has anything else been done: derestriction, top end kit, exhaust, different carb?

What do you mean, BOTH filter sponges. You only have the top part.
If you take out the phone dial washer, too, then you'll increase air intake. I don't think the sponge alone will make a lot of difference.
