I've just been watching the BBC news here in the UK and they're giving severe weather warnings for Canada, across the USA and down as far as to the Mexican border. It looks like a lot of you are in for a rough time this Christmas ❄️

Stay safe, stay warm.

Thank you. The worst is over for us here in Kansas. A lot of car accidents. Like in the hundreds. But few fatalities. A lot of people without power.

The worst for us was really Thursday morning where we had a lot of wind a lot of blowing snow and visibility was down to zero.

-12°F this morning. Cold yes, but we've endured it before. I did cancel Christmas Eve dinner at my sister's due to driving conditions outside the Cities. Stay warm!

We get below normal, way below normal, freezing weather for the next 2 days. I already wrapped my outside faucet, drained my hose, covered my crawl space vents and confirmed my water line heater is operating correctly.

Luckily no snow or ice, and the roads should be safe to drive. Just expecting a bunch of frozen pipes keeping plumbing companies busy. I also put out extra food for the birds and the critters that visit. The news calls this weather event a 'Bomb Cyclone' and luckily, for our area, its a rare event.

Appreciate your concern and well wishes! We hear this is about normal for our northerly neighbors but us down in Texas are far from excited about this. Was a real shock as it was high 60's just a few days ago, but we are making due.

Was a fun experience getting to ride in it this morning though, weather said 8° with the "feels like" at -10°. Needless to say, my RainX didn't stand a chance.

Here's my two cents what is a bomb cyclone?

If you want to calculate the pressure drop needed for a bomb cyclone, you take the sine of the latitude where the low pressure is located and divide it by the sine of 60 degrees.

Once you do the calculation, multiply that result by 24, and that is the number of millibars the storm's pressure must drop to officially qualify it as a bomb cyclone at the given latitude

I think it's time to switch to IceX. Razz emoticon

Glad we didn't get more snow here. Driving into work was like driving in fog with the snow swirling up to 10 feet above the road. At least that was clear. Can't imagine the drifting otherwise.
That windchill is in the Celcius=Fahrenheit range......

😅 Hate to say, if this keeps up I may switch to Corolla!

But excuse me, is that accurate? Does it really say Realfeel NEGATIVE 47?? Nope, I'd never make it.

Around Portland we are covered in ice and frozen sleet with temperatures in the low 20s. I wouldn't take a car out today, let alone a scooter. By tomorrow the temperature is supposed to be in the 40s with the ice expected to all melt off. The forecast for Sunday sounds as good as winters around here get. Everyone should be able to make it to Christmas dinner.

I have huge sympathy for those going through this - but it's just a few days
reminder of what Ukrainians will be suffering for at least two months, without any power in many cases.

Yep. Impressive wind chill. Not sure what it is now, but 30-40 mph winds do cool things off quickly.

Exactly. I've played at winter camping a few times, and melting snow to drink gets old fast. Something about knowing you can get a warm shower in a couple of days is encouraging. I can't imagine not knowing how and when the nightmare ends. Fortunately for a lot of the country there are generators and sources of supplies to make things a bit easier.

Have fun with it. Boil some water in a huge pan take it outside and throw it in the air. It will all turn into steam. I saw it on tiktok so it must be true. Be careful not to burn yourself.

Yesterday it was 54f. This morning it was 5f with windchill giving a feels like of -13. Pretty darned cold for eastern Tennessee. Fortunately we didn't get the rain turn to snow last night predicted.

Lots of travel weather delays, flight cancellations and people postponing their holiday travel by at least a day. Better to be a day late than not make it at all. Stay warm folks.

My niece and her husband won't make it home for Christmas, flight was cancelled coming out of Victoria, BC. At least they are safe at home and not stuck at the airport.

Meanwhile, it was -40* C yesterday morning in our area. That's without wind chill. Today we did however reach a balmy -22*C…

It's supposed to 'warm up' by Monday, after a winter storm Christmas Eve.

Winter🙄

Maybe it's time to move south…until I read that the weather has been generous this year and spread the wealth all over North America.

Stay warm!

My destination coffee shop was open at the usual time yesterday morning...6:45AM...
But with 28mph crosswinds, blowing snow and -9°F temps....I was not tempted on the 45 min ride🙂.....out there in the dark boonies with the fields all now cut....I would easily have lost the road.

He posted this pic of his shop early yesterday.

Patience.
