Working on VNA Allstate. have the bearings seated on the crank, heated the clutch side case up, spit sizzling, put crank with bearings in freezer for about 20 minutes. Put the crank into case goes in well, but I don't think it's not fully seated, bearing is about 1/8 sticking out and crank doesn't go smooth. See pic where I am talking about.

How do I get this fully seated now?

Advise needed. Do I heat the case some more and try to shove it?

Cheers all.

Thanks, I was concerned how to get it back out without damaging the seal. So I came up with a idea… did some more heat and built myself a puller… pulled it in… maybe a bit ghetto, but I figured if it works for a p series why not try to adopt a similar strategy here…
Worked a treat. Fully seated and turning smooth.

Yep puller all the way. Next time, rotate the crank periodically when you install. That will help ensure the seal lip doesnt catch.

The puller doesn't work as well with VBB-era builds, because unlike with P series cases the puller would push against the seal. But I like your block against the case method to circumvent that.

Here's what I always do with early motors: The case needs to be quite hot and liberally oil both the case and the crank webs before installing. Make sure the connecting rod doesn't get hung up during the process. I pretty much use Robot's way with the hot plate on high for 15 mins, and I use an old square brownie baking pan between the burner and the engine half so as not to completely toast the inside of the case.

For reference, crank install sequence starts at 24:16 mins
