At 48 years young……I got my first custom plate and wanted to share with you all. I am in the RELO business in NYC. I find apartments for relocating employees in Manhattan and I think it's going to add to my service when I pull-up to my appointments on this beauty. Does anyone have customs?

I was pondering it but $300.00 is kookie. Then the lady at the DMV said" why would you do that, people just steal them anyway"

I know all I could think of was….I live in Canada… do people really steal license plates here?

I do like the idea of "Vesp A"

But I think we are limited to 5 characters

There are plenty of cars with personalized number plates over here.
In the past the rules were quite strict: the number plate needed to be 3 letters and 3 numbers, so style AAA-111, as all regular number plates are.

But some years ago the rules were changed and now the rule is very simple: the number plate must have at least 1 letter, and costs you a one time 1000€.
The 26 number plates with only a single letter were out of the door in days.

Here in Belgium number plates go with the owner, not with the car. So if you change your car it gets the old number plate.
My dad had the same number plate, style 1-AA-11, from 1960 upto 2010. That year a new system of 7 digit number plates was introduced, style 1-AAA-111.

But I must say I have never seen a motorcycle with a personalized number plate over here. Although the same rules apply also for motorcycle number plates.

The best plate I've seen is simply a 1

I googled that plate and it had been auctioned a few years earlier for A$300,000.

Once I had a Ve5pa because Vespa was taken. They change the plates every few years here and right now they have this ugly white letters on shitty plain brown background so I opted out.

Edited for typo

I thought you would never ask... Back in the 70's and in college the first time, I would borrow login ID's for the Mainframe, and play a text based game called Adventure... in the game there was a magic word that would transport the player from one area in the game to another... It's obscure and offbeat, and nerdy to be sure, but I had to settle for adding a digit on the end because the root word was already taken in my state!

All of my bikes have personalized plates. My 2020 GTS 300 in Giallo has the plate YEALOW, a bit of a play on the color & the sound of "hello" plus some of the feeling of "yeah" from getting to ride it.

In my state, South Dakota, custom plates for motorcycles are only $25 (annually) above the regular plate fees, which are also inexpensive, so the temptation is strong, and I do occasionally succumb to the impulse.

Also, we can use any combination of six numbers and/or letters

I don't have one on my '20 GTS300 yet, but have been mucking about with some possibilities, such as 'WASP', or perhaps simply 'VESPA', but I prefer something with a bit of humor, and try to come up with a plate that's fairly easy for anyone to 'get', and not such an inside joke that it appears to be coded jibberish.

My 2000 Hayabusa's plate read: 'BIGFUN', and my 2016 Indian Vintage read: 'CHEEF'.
Several years ago I owned a 1974 Suzuki GT750 with a plate that said: 'BUFFLO'.

I'll probably think of a custom plate for my Royal Enfield Interceptor at some point.

One of the best ones I've come up with, IMO, was the plate I put on my R18 First Edition...'2BIGNZ', in reference to it's cartoonishly huge 'jugs'...I may use a variation of this on for my '22 Triumph Rocket 3 as '3BIGNZ', or '3BIG1Z'.

These are all cool.

I've never been one to volunteer more money to the state. If I were to do it, I'd probably change the color before the lettering. They charge more for yellow on black, but they look better. Yellow on blue is reserved for vintage plates.

I like being pseudonymous on the internet, so I've been shy to post anything that reveals who I am; but if you knew me you could probably figure out this is my account anyway. Therefore...

A few of my friends already had their M1s before I did, and a few more got them at the same time. We were joking around about starting a lo-fi moto gang, and one of my friends suggested Cheesy Rider. He was trying the McDonalds rule: if nobody will make a suggestion, choose McDonalds. Nobody wants to eat there, so everyone will start revealing their preferences, and you can figure out what people really want to eat. (This is a real thing, but I can't find the link to the guy who coined the term.)

The problem was it was a fun provocation for a license plate frame, and an excuse to use a laser cutter. I made matching frames for all my riding friends.
Seen here with the motorcycle edition of the national park pass, which let me lanesplit to the gate at Crater Lake, giving me an extra hour in the park.

You can get one at a BLM office. Call ahead to make sure they have it.

Same goes for Cyprus. I tried my best to get a 'GTS' number without success. They don't seem to grasp the concept of personalised plates which is a shame as it would be a great revenue stream for the government.

In AZ, the cost for a customized plate is $25/yr. In the long term that's too much for me. But I checked today and the appropriate plate numbers+letters are available. Much more thought is required.

In Ontario canada it's $310.00 for custome plate… plus you can also get approved logos added for an additional $85.00.

I think some places are missing out on a revenue stream lol

Got my first one for the FIAT. I'm 53, I figured it was time.

Since it's Italian and electric, I went with "E TOPO". Topo because the original 500 was the "Topolino" or "little mouse" and E for obvious reasons.

I've seen a few folks checking it out. It's cool. Unfortunately I live in an area that is a literal melting pot of cultures. One of which is Spanish speaking, so it translates into "mole" instead of mouse, but I'll live with that.

It was either that or 88B8BB8, but I don't stand a chance outrunning the po-po anyway. So, yeah.

The helmet was a Z1R Ace IIRC, but the design is long discontinued. I think the closest approximation made now is VCan.

Visor attachments broke on the Ace after 2 seasons and they were unavailable to replace. :-/

Loved that helmet, but it was ready to retire anyway.

Ah, that's good news for you guys. Not so lucky in Ontario where it can only be transferred once (to a new owner) before it is "attached" to the vehicle. <-- Government's own awkward verbiage.

I went with NOTAG5 ("notags" was taken) for this reason. When I pull off Italian Job-style heists, the chasing officers may put out an APB for a Vespa with "no tags".
