Is there any way to implement a "tag" feature in the forum that allows a user to "save" another member's post for a future response?

To be more specific about what I'm talking about:

I read someone's post in a thread, and I'd like to respond to it, but (1) I don't have the time to do so right now, and (2) I need to think about my response before I reply. I'd like to "tag" the post so that I'll remember it instead of relying on my memory or some other external prompt.

Yes, there is an easy way. Select the little rectangle just by the date of the post you want to reply to, "Copy link address", save in your Notes (your profile picture at the far top right of the page).

One way to do this is to favorite the topic. Granted, that's the topic, and not the specific post. But it's an approximation of what you're after.

You can do that, too. You could click that rectangle (which gives you a direct link to that specific post) and then bookmark that post.

That said, the idea of an internal bookmark mechanism is an intriguing one. I'll stew on it a while.

Thanks for this tip. Going to give it a try. Now I just have to remember that it's there.

I already have the topic favorited, so that doesn't quite help, especially since it's an individual post in a large topic (one of the posts in the "what's cheering you up" thread).

RFE: implement autosuggest for mentions when composing a post. The feature should implement case-insensitive matching, suggesting the correct case. For example, if I type lower-case @jes, it should suggest title-case @Jess.

Unlikely to happen in the short term, as the current post editor is... archaic and ancient and the bane of my existence.

Also, @ tags are not case sensitive. Or, more precisely, they are always represented in lowercase.

Huh - I could swear I was trying to get a tag to work somewhere one time and I had to type @Jess rather than @jess.

Maybe you could trim the query parameters from YouTube URLs, since the YouTube plugin leaves them behind and they end up orphaned on the page.

For example:

&list=RDAE1ct5yEuVY&start_radio=1

Surely that's something the poster should do themselves? Like trimming Ebay 5-line identifiers?

Oh wait - seems most people don't even know they can.

Yeah, I've noticed and it's something I've been meaning to get to. But as wrestling with regex is easily one of my least favorite things in this world, I've been putting it off in favor of... well, almost anything else that needs to be done.

The obstacle here is ImageMagick, which only added AVIF support in v7.0, which (AFAIK) is not available for the linux platform architecture that MV runs on.

Adding HEIC and WEBP support was nontrivial, and I ended up having to build ImageMagick directly from source, which consumed several days of my life.

So this will probably have to wait until someone gets around to distributing an actual built version of ImageMagick that I can use.

I'm honestly a bit mystified trying to imagine where you're getting all of these AVIF images, considering that I have never, ever encountered one in the wild.

The "Buy Me A Coffee" icon won't appear on my iPad and Safari but it's fine on my iPhone 13 Pro. iPad is a 6th Gen so it stopped getting further updates. It's on latest iPad OS 17.7.8. Tried cleaning up cookies, etc. but it's still the same…

Are you sure you aren't VPN'd to a different location on one of those? Prices are location-specific (and also out of my control).

Every device is connected to the same Router running the VPN service and the server I am using is in Greece. I can only Join on the one that says 3€, the one that says 2.54€ doesn't do anything pressing Join. Also, if you look closely the info is different between the two screenshots...

I'm pretty sure is a VPN related thing...

I've been getting a lot of this screen that pops up saying "scanning connection". It just keeps running so I hit back then try clicking on again and everything is normal. It's not a deal breaker but just annoying. Only happens when clicking onto MV without being logged in. Running Chrome on my Samsung.
