I'll get right on that.

Maybe we could implement some of the fancy new AI to query the user and see if they can summarize the thread before they can post a comment.

I had reason to dip into Dark Mode on my mobile browser, and I ran into a display issue that I remember seeing before on the forum when other members had posted Dark Mode screen shots.

Currently when the page background is inverted to black the masthead backdrop stands out more than it should (picture 2). The same thing happens on the page footer where it makes the text unreadable.

It seems like there's an easy fix for this without sacrificing the appearance of normal mode.

In normal view the masthead backdrop is an opaque light grey, and it sits against the light grey page like a faint watermark. If the image was instead made in semi-transparent mid-grey it ought to appear like a watermark in both modes.

It looks like the current image is indexed with binary transparency. Changing to alpha transparency makes for a larger file size, but it also softens some of the jaggy edges.

I remade the image and tested it in the normal and dark modes of Brave (Android) and Chrome (Windows), and it rendered as expected, i.e. like a faint watermark.

Done. Files pushed to server and CSS altered. I stuck with the 1x version, as we don't have a media selector for the masthead background at the moment, and the low-contrast (plus your improved alpha) means that the resolution is mostly a non-issue.

I very much appreciate your thoughtful contributions here, Ironfoot. Thanks much.

No bother! It just came to me that the transparency could be made to work both ways.

I imagine other issues that dark mode throws up are not so easy to accommodate.

Yeah, definitely. I did experiment with dark mode at some point in the past and the feedback was quite negative. I'm somewhat reluctant to put a lot more effort into it.

sheesh, people who don't like it don't have to use it. I use it on my phone but not my laptop because they are used in different lighting environments.

one thing I do notice in dark mode is the icons for search, notis, mail are black and should be white.

and the extremely trivial, the retro shading on the buttons such as 'new topic' is back to front

preserving time offsets in links to youtube vids would be great.

also increasing the max image upload size to say 15mb would be good as every now and then the photos I wish to upload are 12mb or so, typically when I've edited them in the photos app on my phone.

That might not be easily solvable. Or, more precisely, it doesn't already do the auto-translation because doing so is not straightforward.

If a post is hidden ("pinked out") can an email or PM be sent to the OP to make them aware? This would be helpful to those who post in the For Sale section and had forgotten to include a [Location], as they often don't check. Why should they, as no replies should be possible, so they never see their post has been hidden and don't get a chance to re-post.

I think this is eminently reasonable. I will add it to the list.

I would be most likely to make this a notification, though -- automated PMs are messy, and I tend to shy away from automated emails as a general life goal. That leaves notifications as the main thrust of server-to-user communication.

There is a slight complication in that post hiding is different than topic hiding, and in the For Sale case, you're probably talking about pinking topics.

Ah yes, topics indeed. And a notification would be just fine, better in almost every way from a PM or email.

TIA.

I don't recall if this was suggested and put on Jess' list or rejected but... can we get the "Favorites" folder link back on the top of the "General Discussion" page?

I know I can get to it from the "Forums" page so it's not that important but I know Jess likes a full plate so I'm just doing my part!🙃

Obrigado, Miguel

I have a suggestion - make it possible to "flag" or forward the scam responses to wanted ads. Right now there is no easy way to notify since we can't use screen grabs. A flag button that forwards it to the moderators would be excellent.

It's a great suggestion, albeit surprisingly difficult to implement. I'll put it on the list, though. Thanks!
