The only issue I've ever had with my Vespa LX 2007-23k kms is fuel related.
My Vespa garage has replaced fuel lines recently.
Previously there was fuel leaking, leaving a puddle underneath. This is not happening now but still the smell is present.
One thing I have done is fill the tank to the top and I've recently read that this is bad practice.
Might this be the cause of the smell and is there anything that needs to be done (apart from not filling it as full) to stop the smell?

Thanks in advance for your help.

Your fuel tank vent line is open from the tank neck down to below the scooter. This is unlike the North American ones which have the notorious 'Evap Crap'.

If you fill to the top with cold fuel, and only ride a few miles before parking it again, the fuel will expand from the heat given off by the engine and fumes and even a few drips of fuel will descend out of the vent. Fumes will escape anyway after riding even with a partially filled tank, so some smell will be evident regardless.

The answer is only fill until the pump nozzle clicks off, and don't try to top-up. You'd only gain a few cc's extra, and this might well get lost by the above mechanism anyway.
