I met him when he came to visit our soccer club in the late 70s. I remember him being very kind and attentive.

He transcended the generations. Many of the footballing (soccer) youth of today still recognise that Pelé simply was, 'The Greatest ever footballer'.

What a fantastic footballer and genuine nice guy he was.

I am old enough to have followed the World Cups in 1966 on TV (in black and white) and 1970.

I still remember how many defenders actively went out of their way to literally kick him out of the game as it seemed that was the only way to stop him. More often than not Pele would get up and shake them by the hand.

Imagine that happening today.

I grew up watching soccer on the telly in Brazil and watching him play.

He was just so enthusiastic about the games and at the same time very humble.

When he began playing as a child in the poorest part of town he didn't even have shoes. He practiced bare feet with whoever wish to join the match.

May his soul rest in peace I will never forget your kindness and your big bright smile.

And the millions of people that were inspired by your incredible achievements either in Brazil or abroad: my condolences to you as well.

President elect Lula has instituted 3 days of morning. And the Christ the Redeemer is illuminated with colors of the Brazilian flag in honor of Pele.
