Renewing a few bits and opened package and new Variator pulley and jockey wheel has problems
One fin broken on new Variator half .
Can I balance it out ok by removing it's opposite number?
New jockey wheel chunk missing but no hairline cracks anywhere.
Can I dress the damaged area and still use it ?

Cannot return bit as have been sitting about for a while. Possibly done by me in moving bits about.

I've removed the opposite side fin before and dremeled both missing fins flush with no ill effects, but this was on a old clunker that was hard to get parts for. Me personally? I'd do it.

Now that plastic pulley? Nope, I'd replace it.

So that being said, the outer variator plats are usually pretty cheap if they are still available. And since I wouldn't reuse that pulley I would just replace both.

I know you said it's been awhile since you bought these, but if you're sure they were damaged in shipping it might still be worth contacting the vendor? Sometimes they will work with you, even months later.

The Variator plate has been installed before.
It's a $15 part that was balanced at the factory. There's probably a good reason they don't just cast them and stick them in a bag.

While nobody can guarantee that using them will decrease the life of your belt, it's certainly a possibility.

I'm not sure what they sell for in Wales, but shipping one to the UK from the US is about $15 as well.

If it were me, and I had no other spares, I would probably still use that jockey wheel. The belt isn't spending a lot of time in contact with the wheel, and certainly not at any force. So probably no big deal. Worst case scenario is that your belt wears prematurely, but I kind of doubt it.

The variator fin, though, would definitely give me pause. Yes, you could theoretically balance it by breaking another fin, but this is... just not very optimal. And when a variator shits the bed, it's pretty bad. I don't think I would risk it.

To buy a jockey wheel is 65$ and a pulley half 27$ equivalent over here.
I shall order a pulley half in a bit.
