Cool digs. A couple things come to mind: 1) no couch to chill on with a cold one while looking at your planning blackboard trying to figure out what you wrote on it last night at 1 am in the morning. 2) Hope you have a hella security system - cameras, alarms, goliath locks, etc....

Couch: there is a plan - and amazon is involved. It's "multi use" and a bit more understated - but should be good. stay tuned.
Security: Good thought.
The place I'm in has cameras - and is remarkably safe - but the amount of low level crimes and theft everywhere is a real thing. I'm also going to install my own security - and those details and pics will remain un-filmed...
The only other thing I can do is buy good insurance... ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

While I was supposed to be packing and shipping CM's motor today (sorry CM), I got side tracked.

One thing I haven't gotten to yet is setting up my air system.
I've got a harbor freight 21 gallon compressor that puts out about 4 cfm - not enough to really use any spinning surface finish air tools like sanders or the like.

Started porning the internet in search of a nice 40 gallon compressor. Went way (way, way way) down a rabbit hole.

Moved from Home Depot to tractor supply, before bearing off to Craigslist and YouTube - where I decided that used might not be a good idea - before pit stopping at high output single stage, before bumping into scratch and dent off takes from grainier.

At some point I decided that what I NEEDED was a $1500 60 gal 16cfm unit - when I came across a listing for a "slightly damaged" new and unused behemoth 80 gal 24cfm, 7.5hp, 3 phase, unit.

Being a sunny day, I hopped in the truck and wandered out to nowhere California to have a look.
15 min later… it was being loaded in the truck.

Saw they also had a new in the box $1000 desiccant water separator and negotiated for the whole lot at $1200.

Unit is ridiculously large, but… CFM.

¯\_(ツ)_/¯

You haven't seen the layout yet...
🙂

Love a good deal.
My budget was $800-$900 - and I clearly blew that by 50%.
However - dryer ($1K) and compressor ($3,200) for a total of $1200 was just too hard to lay off!

There is a plan brewing tho - involving the mill, the lathe, a cheap pop up tent, and some walnut shells.

🙂

Lest y'all think I've gone soft...
Been working on the shop - and various upgrades.

Compressor needed its own breaker - and breaker box was full - so I slunk off to another forum on electricity and learned how to wire a 3 phase electrical panel.

Started with a rusty birds nest (no offense BN), and ended up with a new shiny breaker panel nicely wired. Total cost was about $300 - or in SIP speak - a handful of cables, a new rear hub, and some rubber parts.

I'm also in the midst of converting my mill back to CNC.
Would allow me to do some cooler fabrication stuff.
Some idiot savant of CNC (that's hopefully more than half true) is directing me.

Few pics below of the goings on.
Should eventually lead to posts over on my other thread - which is itching to cross the 100 page mark.
Rusty rats nest of a breaker panel - with no room to expand. Replacement was $2500 if hired in... so I decided to try my hand at it.

Then it was time to tackle this mess. This is Kit's electronics box. 1980's CNC electronics at their best. I've been mapping all the wire locations - before I tore out what wouldn't be needed.

ooo. good question.
there is a ground wire connected to the box itself.
the ground bar is also connected to the box.
my understanding is - this is appropriate.
the old box was wired this way as well.
i'll look into that one to confirm.
tks.

Lil update if you find yourself watching-the-paint-dry bored.

Found some online help - and somehow - managed to rewire the whole Kitt and caboodle™.
Having scraped my way through putting in a new 3 phase main box (there is little doubt at some point I am going to disappear from this forum due to "mid project mistake"), it was on to the AC to DC 300V controls.
AZ - are you reading this?

Long story short - I am now cutting parts CNC - and it's pretty damn cool.
Some pics below of the goings on.
