New pattern. Not an exact match to a specific Hamonshū drawing, but eerily reminiscent.

I saw it for the first time this morning. It always shows up on the sign up page on my cell phone. Here's a screenshot

It's quite beautiful and soothing. And like just said it changes colors and pictures.

Nah, that's been there forever. There used to be banners there, until I took most of the banners down. Ironfoot's banner was still there until recently, but he took it down, so now there's just a thin patch there where banners used to go.

I am hoping Ironfoot puts another banner back up at some point -- unlike most advertisements, his banner actually helped beautify the place.

I took the banner down when the DoubleGood t-shirts where removed by Redbubble. There was no longer anything to promote. Some of the t-shirt designs have since been re-listed, so I guess the banner can come back.

I'm enjoying these. You're creating them yourself? I imagine that figuring out the tiling can be quite a puzzle in some cases (thinking of the recent ocean waves one in particular).

Hah. I'm not quite that talented. I'm getting the source material from vectorstock.com and reprocessing them into a format suitable for what I'm doing here. That usually means un-tiling a large tiled vector image and selecting just the repeating piece, then adjusting the line weights and overall size for aesthetics.

The end result you see here is actually a rasterized stencil, with transparent alpha where the color shows through. The color is the background color of the window, showing through the stencil. That lets me rotate the stencil image and the colors independently of each other, multiplying the number of combinations.

And the stencil rotates at midnight UTC every day, which is currently 4:00pm in my time zone. Weirdly, this has given rise to an unexpected (but positive) side effect of being more cognizant of UTC time.

It's nice to see your advert again. It felt there was something missing when you took it down. I hope you have plenty of sales in 2023.

I realize we've had some repeats over the last couple of days, sorry about that. Every time I add another pattern to the list, it changes the math for which pattern will be shown on a given day, and we seem to keep going back over the same few each time.

There are currently 10 different patterns and 3 different colors, for a total of 30 combinations.

Tomorrow, I promise there will be a pattern you haven't seen. Unless I add another pattern between now and then.

Thanks! This is one of the larger ones, checking in at around 66k. I think the only one larger is the topographic map.

Generally, I would prefer that backgrounds stay in the under-5k level. But I suppose we can have a few indulgent versions.

111,000 stitch knit pattern I created off that image. I have yet to actually knit it
That's really cool! But now that you've shown the pattern, you must knit it.

I fear you've planted the seed in my head and now the pattern is bothering me, where it wasn't before.

Anyone else finding the current pattern hard to look at?
I'm not experiencing jumping or flickering with the current interlocking background. But I know the effect that oopsclunkthud is describing and it's a real phenomenon with certain frequencies of stripes and patterns. Can even trigger headaches in some people.

Maybe if the grey lines in 'interlocking-stencil.png' were made partially transparent, the whole pattern would fade against the background a bit more. A bit less contrasty.

Haven't had my morning coffee yet, so it's not bothering me yet.

It's hard to find them. You have to be looking just the right way.
